Jeremy Strong Eyed For Social Network Sequel Lead

Jeremy Strong is being touted as the top choice to play Mark Zuckerberg in Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network Part II, based on The Facebook Files.

Jeremy Strong may be stepping into the role of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network Part II, the upcoming follow-up to the 2010 Oscar-winning film. According to sources, the Succession star is currently the front-runner to portray the META CEO and Facebook founder, though no official offer has been made.

The news follows earlier reports that Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison are also top picks for lead roles in the project, with Aaron Sorkin returning to write and direct the film. The original The Social Network, which earned Sorkin an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, chronicled the early days of Facebook’s creation and starred Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg, earning him an Oscar nomination.

The sequel, now in development at Sony, is not a traditional continuation but rather a new chapter inspired by The Facebook Files, a groundbreaking investigative series by Jeff Horwitz published in The Wall Street Journal in October 2021. The articles uncovered internal Facebook documents and whistleblower testimony revealing the platform’s internal struggles and societal impact.

Sorkin has reportedly spent years deciding how to approach the next chapter in Facebook’s story. With this new angle, the film will delve into the controversies exposed by The Facebook Files. In the current plan, White would portray journalist Jeff Horwitz, while Madison would take on the role of the whistleblower behind the exposé.

The film is being produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Aaron Sorkin, and Stuart Besser. Sony and representatives for Strong have declined to comment at this time.

Strong, best known for his Emmy-winning role as Kendall Roy in Succession, is represented by WME and Range Media Partners.
