5 of Andrew Garfield’s Most Underrated Roles!

We all know Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, but did you know about his many other roles as an actor? He definitely has range, and you should consider watching the films mentioned below.

Never Let Me Go (2010)

Never Let Me Go tells the stories of three teenagers who attend a specialized English boarding school in a dystopian society. The film stars actors Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Keira Knightley. Garfield was nominated six times by various organizations for his role and eventually won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2011. Overall, this film is a heartfelt story about growing up and learning, particularly during certain life stages.

Under The Silver Lake (2018)

Under The Silver Lake is about Sam (Andrew Garfield), a man who finds a mysterious woman named Sarah (Riley Keough) in his complex’s swimming pool and then disappears. He ventures out in search of this mystery woman across Los Angeles and tries to decode why she disappeared while ultimately encountering themes of mystery, scandal, and conspiracy throughout the city. The film won three awards, including Garfield’s win from International Online Cinema Award (INOCA) for Best Actor.

Mainstream (2021)

If you’re a fan of Alexa Demie, Maya Hawke, and of course, Andrew Garfield, you may or may not have been introduced to them by this film. Mainstream follows a young woman named Frankie (Maya Hawke) who encounters a charismatic stranger named Link (Andrew Garfield), who partners up to create over-the-top YouTube videos on the internet. This allows them to gain attention over their content but, in turn, creates a love triangle that challenges their identity as creators as well as their relationships. The film received six nominations from the Orizzonti Awards. This film is quite relatable to our digitalized world but in a very rom-com sort of way.

Breathe (2017)

Breathe is a period romance drama film based on the true story of producer Jonothan Cavendish’s father, Robin Cavendish, who contracted Polio at the age of 28 during the 1950s and became paralyzed. Robin is played by Andrew Garfield, and his wife, Diana Cavendish, is played by actress Claire Foy. He ultimately helps build a wheelchair with a respirator attached to help him travel and leave his home so he would not be bedbound anymore. This is a heartwarming and inspirational film of a unique story of love, perseverance, and survival. In 2017, the film received the Heartland Film Festival’s Truly Moving Pictures Award, which was much deserved!

The Social Network (2010)

This film tells the story of the creation of Facebook, starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, who comes up with the concept of the social media outlet. He encounters many hurdles, including one of his former friends Eduardo Saverin ( Andrew Garfield), filing a lawsuit against him. This film is one that will most certainly take you in for a ride, especially with all the drama that is involved throughout it. Adapted from the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, the film won a staggering 173 wins out of 183 nominations, including Best Writing for an Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score at the 2011 Oscars.
