In a statement shared with Tudum, series creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer explained that the project was inspired by the behind-the-scenes documentaries they admired growing up, particularly those made for The Lord of the Rings. With that kind of storytelling becoming increasingly rare, the brothers said they wanted to revive an honest, on-the-ground look at how a massive production is made.
