The God Of The Woods Series Headed To Netflix

Netflix is adapting Liz Moore’s bestselling novel The God of the Woods into a new drama series exploring family secrets, privilege, and a chilling disappearance.

Netflix is bringing Liz Moore’s acclaimed novel The God of the Woods to the screen with a new series adaptation that promises mystery, emotional fallout, and deeply buried family secrets.

Based on Moore’s 2024 New York Times bestselling book, The God of the Woods centers on the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar, a case that reopens old wounds and exposes far more than a single missing child. What begins as a haunting mystery soon reveals multiple disappearances and a tangled web of secrets surrounding the wealthy Van Laar family.

Set in the Adirondacks, the multigenerational drama unfolds as past and present collide. In the aftermath of Barbara’s disappearance from her family’s summer camp — an event linked to an earlier family tragedy — the Van Laars struggle to keep their carefully constructed world intact. As the investigation deepens, the family’s wealth and influence begin to fracture, laying bare class tensions, abuse of power, and the destructive cost of privilege.

Moore serves as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside Liz Hannah, known for her work on The Girl from Plainville, Mindhunter, and The Post. Moore previously adapted her own work for television with Long Bright River. Together, the duo will guide the series’ creative direction.

“We love making TV and can’t wait to bring The God of the Woods to life with our partners at Sony and Netflix,” Moore and Hannah said in a statement. “We hope everyone falls in love (and hate) with these characters as much as we have.”

The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty executive producing for Original Film. At this time, no cast members have been announced.

Netflix has not yet revealed a release date for The God of the Woods, but additional details are expected to be shared as the project moves forward.
