Snowfall Spinoff Adds New Cast Members

FX’s Snowfall spinoff adds Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III to the cast, joining returning stars Gail Bean and Isaiah John.

FX is ready to return to South Central Los Angeles. The upcoming Snowfall spinoff pilot has officially cast three new series regulars: Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III—also known as rapper Buddy—according to an exclusive report from Variety.

The trio joins previously announced returning cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who will reprise their original Snowfall roles. Character details for Blackk, Smith, and Sims remain under wraps for now.

The pilot is set in 1990s Los Angeles, just after the events of the original series. The official logline reveals that a recovering addict—played by Bean—aims to push West Coast rap into the mainstream while navigating tensions fueled by a violent gang war.

Blackk rose to fame with his Emmy-nominated role in When They See Us and later starred in This Is Us. He’ll next appear in Euphoria Season 3 and has also been featured in films like Story Ave and Landscape with Invisible Hand.

The pilot is penned and executive produced by Malcolm Spellman, with Snowfall veterans Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson also on board. FX Productions is producing.

Originally created by the late John Singleton, alongside Eric Amadio and Dave Andron, Snowfall aired on FX for six critically acclaimed seasons from 2017 to 2023. The series explored the rise of the crack epidemic in 1980s L.A. through intersecting storylines involving street dealers, CIA operatives, and drug cartels.
