While details about Mia Goth’s role remain tightly under wraps, the film is slated to begin production in fall 2025, with a theatrical release scheduled for May 28, 2027. The announcement was first made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni during this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo.
Starfighter will be a standalone entry in the Star Wars universe, introducing a new roster of characters and taking place approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. That film concluded the Skywalker saga and is currently the final installment on the Star Wars timeline.
This new chapter is penned by Jonathan Tropper, who has previously collaborated with Shawn Levy on films like The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You. Tropper is also known as the creator of Apple TV+’s Your Friends & Neighbors.
Starfighter also marks a major follow-up for Levy, whose last directorial outing, Deadpool & Wolverine, shattered records in 2024 with a $1.3 billion global box office haul, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
As for Mia Goth, her rising star continues to shine. She’s set to appear in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein with Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, and is also part of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey, which features a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. Her past work includes Emma, Infinity Pool, and Ti West’s horror trilogy X, Pearl, and Maxxxine.
Mia Goth is represented by WME, Curtis Brown, and Michael Auerbach for legal affairs.
With fresh faces, a new timeline, and Levy at the helm, Star Wars: Starfighter is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated entries in the ever-expanding Star Wars universe.
