Prime Video is diving into dark family secrets and summertime suspense with the highly anticipated mystery thriller We Were Liars. The full trailer for the limited series adaptation dropped today, offering a gripping first look at the story behind the Sinclair family’s seemingly perfect facade. All eight episodes of We Were Liars will debut June 18, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Based on the best-selling novel by E. Lockhart, We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman, a teenager whose life is forever altered by a traumatic accident during one summer spent on her grandfather’s private island in New England. As Cadence struggles to piece together what happened, she begins to suspect that her closest friends—collectively known as “the Liars”—may be keeping painful secrets of their own.
The cast features Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence, joined by Shubham Maheshwari as Gat Patil, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, and Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis. The Sinclair family is brought to life by Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse as Harris Sinclair, the family patriarch.
Behind the scenes, the series is shepherded by co-showrunners and executive producers Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals), with additional executive production from Emily Cummins, Brett Matthews, Pascal Verschooris, and author E. Lockhart herself.
Produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios, We Were Liars brings the haunting beauty and emotional complexity of Lockhart’s novel to the screen for the first time. The book is published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.
With its layered storytelling and moody atmosphere, We Were Liars is poised to be one of this summer’s most talked-about releases. Fans of mystery, drama, and twisted family dynamics won’t want to miss this chilling adaptation.
