Prime Video announces The Summer I Turned Pretty movie with creator Jenny Han writing and directing as Belly’s story continues past the season 3 finale.
Just when fans thought the story at Cousins Beach had reached its end, Prime Video has revealed that The Summer I Turned Pretty will live on with a brand-new movie.
The romantic drama series, based on Jenny Han’s bestselling book trilogy, officially concluded its run with the season 3 finale this week. But in a surprise announcement, Prime Video confirmed the franchise will expand with a feature film, keeping the journey of protagonist Isabel “Belly” Conklin alive on the big screen.
Han, who created the series and penned the novels, will both write and direct the film. In a press release, she explained why the next chapter had to be a movie: “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
Belly’s Story Continues
Since its 2022 premiere, The Summer I Turned Pretty has captivated audiences with the love triangle between Belly, portrayed by Lola Tung, and brothers Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). The series quickly became a fan-favorite summer staple, with season 3 marking what was originally thought to be the final goodbye.
Fans have spent the past season watching Belly navigate heartbreak, growth, and the complicated dynamics with the Fisher boys. Now, with the newly announced movie, viewers will see Belly reach what Han calls a “big milestone” in her life—a moment that needed the scope of a feature film to properly capture.
Prime Video Expands Its Beloved Hit
The decision to greenlight a movie marks a significant expansion of The Summer I Turned Pretty franchise. While no release date has been revealed, anticipation is already building among fans who have followed Belly’s journey from page to screen and through three emotional seasons.
As the book-to-series-to-film transition comes full circle, one thing is certain: Belly’s story isn’t over just yet.
