Jon Bernthal, who first took up the skull-emblazoned mantle in Netflix’s Daredevil series, became a fan favorite with his gritty portrayal of the vengeful vigilante. His performance was so popular it led to a two-season standalone series, The Punisher, before Netflix’s slate of Marvel shows came to an end. Now, after reentering the Marvel fold in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, Jon Bernthal is officially part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe — and he’s not done yet.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jon Bernthal will join Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in what’s shaping up to be a packed and potentially game-changing next chapter in the Spider-Man saga. While plot details are still tightly under wraps, the film is already building buzz thanks to its cast, which also includes Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink and The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas. Fan favorites Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will also return, reprising their roles from the first three Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films.
Jon Bernthal‘s return as Castle won’t end with Brand New Day, either. The actor is also set to headline a Punisher TV special for Disney+ in 2026. Not only will he star, but he’ll also serve as co-writer on the project alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. The duo previously teamed up on HBO‘s acclaimed We Own This City in 2022, and their reunion promises a gritty, character-driven take on the Punisher mythos.
With Marvel diving deeper into darker territory and expanding the street-level corner of the MCU, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is a welcome — and long-awaited — addition to this new chapter. And now that Castle is set to collide with Peter Parker’s world, Brand New Day could be one of the most intense Spider-Man entries yet.
