Take Me Away Gets 2025 Revival For Freaky Friday Sequel

A new version of Take Me Away from the 2003 film will be featured in the upcoming sequel Freakier Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning.

The beloved anthem from Disney‘s 2003 hit Freaky Friday has been reimagined for a new generation. A fresh version of “Take Me Away,” performed in the original film by Christina Vidal as part of the fictional band Pink Slip, officially hit the airwaves on Thursday, July 10, with SiriusXM’s Disney Hits station spinning it every hour throughout the day.

The revival track is set to feature in Freakier Friday, the upcoming sequel to Freaky Friday, and dropped on streaming and digital platforms on Friday, according to Film Updates on X. Disney Music confirmed the song’s return earlier that morning with a post across their social media platforms.

The original Freaky Friday movie, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, followed a high-strung single mom and her rebellious teenage daughter who suddenly swap bodies thanks to a mysterious fortune. As the pair struggle to live each other’s lives, they gain a newfound respect and understanding—set to a soundtrack that became a fan favorite, including the punk-rock energy of “Take Me Away.”

Though originally performed by the Australian band Lash in 2001, the song became iconic in Freaky Friday when re-recorded by Vidal’s character Maddie and used during one of the film’s most memorable scenes. Its return now feels like a nostalgic full-circle moment for longtime fans.

Freakier Friday, set to hit theaters on August 8, picks up years later. Anna is now a mother herself, navigating the challenges of blending families with a daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter. But history repeats itself when she and Tess experience another unexpected body swap. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are reprising their roles and also serving as executive producers on the film.

With its multigenerational twist and the return of a beloved track, Freakier Friday is shaping up to deliver both the chaos and charm that made the original a Disney classic.
