Selena Gomez opens up about her embarrassing first kiss with fiancé Benny Blanco, revealing she broke into a rash from nerves during the sweet moment.
The Only Murders in the Building star and her fiancé appeared on the latest episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, released Wednesday, April 30, and gave fans an intimate glimpse into how their romance began.
“We were hanging on our second date, towards the end of the date,” Benny Blanco recalled. “We were sitting in the living room, on the couch and we were playing We’re Not Really Strangers.”
As part of the card game, they were prompted to “take a selfie with the person next to you,” which quickly turned into something more. “She got right on my chest and took a selfie,” he shared. “And then right after, I just looked at her and said, ‘I got to kiss this girl.’”
Benny Blanco went for it—and the moment clearly left an impression.
Asked if it was a good kiss, Selena Gomez replied, “It was a very good kiss.” But the emotions ran high—maybe too high. “Right away, her heart started beating quickly,” Benny Blanco revealed. “She started getting a rash on her face and she was so nervous.”
Gomez admitted she hadn’t felt that kind of spark in a long time. “I hadn’t liked anyone in a very long time, so some kisses are for fun, and then when you feel something behind the kiss, it’s completely different,” she explained.
Having spent about five years mostly single—aside from “a few s—– dates here and there”—the pop star confessed she was “a little embarrassed.” “He was like, ‘Are you okay?’ And I was like, ‘No, no, I’m fine.’ I didn’t want to be like, ‘I like you, I really like you.’”
From that moment on, Benny Blanco said, everything just “felt so natural.”
The couple first met back in 2013 through Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, and would go on to collaborate on several tracks—including “Kill Em With Kindness” and “Same Old Love” from her 2015 album Revival.
After confirming their relationship in December 2023, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco announced their engagement a year later, in December 2024. Selena Gomez shared the news on Instagram with a photo of her dazzling diamond ring, captioned, “Forever begins now…”
Since then, the two have continued to share sweet moments together, from cheesy mall prom photoshoots to celebrating Passover Seder and even performing their song “Bluest Flame” karaoke-style.
But it’s clear their first kiss—rash and all—remains one of their most cherished memories.
