Prime Video releases trailer for Benito Skinner’s college comedy Overcompensating and unveils a star-studded lineup of guest appearances.
Prime Video is turning up the heat on its comedy lineup with the release of the official trailer for Overcompensating, the bold and hilarious new series from comedian and creator Benito Skinner. Alongside the trailer drop, the streamer also revealed an impressive list of guest stars set to appear throughout the show’s debut season.
Premiering globally on May 15, 2025, Overcompensating will drop all eight episodes at once on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The series is produced by A24, Strong Baby, and Amazon MGM Studios, and promises a wild, heartwarming, and painfully relatable college comedy journey.
Skinner stars as Benny, a closeted ex-football player and former homecoming king who’s now navigating the chaos of college life. Benny’s world collides with Carmen, played by Wally Baram (Shrinking), a social outsider determined to finally fit in. As the two forge a friendship, they dive headfirst into the mess of hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs—all while dodging the emotional landmines of young adulthood. Helping them along (and sometimes making things messier) are Benny’s confident older sister, portrayed by Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror), and her larger-than-life campus-legend boyfriend, played by Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus). Rounding out the main cast is Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel).
Newly announced guest stars include Lukas Gage (Companion), Megan Fox (New Girl), Bowen Yang (The Wedding Banquet), Matt Rogers (No Good Deed), James Van Der Beek (Varsity Blues), Didi Conn (Harlan Coben’s Shelter), Rachel Matthews (Upgraded), Danielle Perez (The Night Agent), Boman Martinez Reid (Made For TV with Boman Martinez-Reid), and Yasmine Sahid.
The lineup doesn’t stop there—previously announced guest and recurring appearances include Andrea Martin, Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaia Gerber, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, Alexandra Beaton, Claire Qute, Elias Azimi, Maddie Phillips, and Charli XCX, who also serves as both executive producer and executive music producer. Holmes, Corteon Moore, Owen Thiele, Nell Verlaque, and Tomaso Sanelli will recur throughout the season.
Overcompensating is not only created by Skinner but also written and executive produced by him. The series is showrun by Scott King, with Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin also executive producing under the Strong Baby banner.
Funny, fearless, and deeply personal, Overcompensating explores the ways we all try a little too hard to fit in while figuring out who we really are.
Be sure to catch all eight episodes when they premiere May 15 on Prime Video.
