Everything We Know About Season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’!

Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building is dropping soon, and we’re breaking down everything we know so far!

Our favorite multi-generational buddy-comedy is almost back, and we’re so excited to watch. We know that the world of Only Murders in the Building is expanding because the murder that occurs at the end of season two happens in a theater, not in the Arconia like the previous two seasons. What kind of hijinks will Mabel, Charles, and Oliver get into this time around? How will all the questions we have about this new murder be resolved? Will our podcasting gang still be able to cover a murder that didn’t happen in the building? There is so much we don’t know, but until then, let’s get into what we do know.

If you haven’t finished the second season of OMITB yet, know that spoilers lie ahead!

We’re in for a bit of a double feature on August 8, 2023, because not one but two episodes of Only Murders in the Building are set to premiere. We’ll be sure to have our tie-dye hoodies on and popcorn ready! The show is nominated for eleven Emmys this year and is showing no signs of stopping. Check out the new artwork for this season:

Here is what we know: Paul Rudd is returning. If you stuck around to see the “One Year Later” portion of the season two finale, you’ll know that the setup for season three has already been established. Paul Rudd plays Ben Glenroy, an actor in Oliver’s newest play. It is heavily insinuated that Charles is his rival, maybe even a physical threat to him. Ben then dies on stage in front of a theater full of play-goers. Who is Ben and why would anyone want to kill him on opening night?

Based on a season three teaser, we know that the one and only Meryl Streep is joining the cast for season three. Streep is playing a woman who is also in Oliver’s play. If you’ve ever seen shows like Murder She Wrote or Law & Order: SVU, you’ll know that when all is said and done, the guest stars often play the Big Bad. It could be very fun to see Meryl Streep play a silly villain. On the other hand, Tina Fey was not the killer in season two, so maybe we’re in for a surprise!

Finally, we know that Jessie Williams will be a part of season three. We don’t know much more than that though. Maybe he’s another member of Oliver’s cast? Maybe he’ll serve as a new love interest for Mabel? We can’t wait to find out!

3. Returning (and Not Returning) Characters

Luckily, everyone’s favorite crime-solving trio, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, will all be back for season three. In more happy news, Andrea Martin who plays Joy, Charles’ newest love interest, will be returning for season three. Perhaps love is not a lie! There will be a couple of notable absences this year. Nathan Lane, who plays the deliciously mysterious deli owner, Teddy Dimas, will not be reprising his role. Amy Ryan, the actress that plays Jan Bellows, Charles’ love interest in the first season, and confusing situationship in the second, will also not be returning. We’ll miss the father-son dynamic between Teddy and Theo, but we’ll hold out hope for season four. The strange hold that Jan has over Charles is always fun to watch, but maybe she’ll get out of prison early for good behavior at some point. Anything can happen in and around the little world of the Arconia.

A Wedding (?!)

Back in March, on-set photos came out that showed Mabel in a wedding dress! Charles and Oliver also appear to be dressed in formal wedding guest attire. Is Mabel really getting married? Is this some sort of elaborate dream sequence? Either way, we’re obsessed! We just know Charles and Oliver would fight over who gets the first father-daughter dance.

Are you ready to solve another murder? It looks like we’re in for a wild ride this season. What’re your theories so far?
