Outer Banks season 5 has begun filming as Netflix promotes two cast members to series regulars and reveals first look at final season photos.
Outer Banks fans are one step closer to the end of the Pogues’ wild ride as production officially kicks off for the Netflix hit’s fifth and final season. While a release date has yet to be announced, the streamer has unveiled the first official images from Season 5—and shared some big casting news to tide fans over.
TVLine confirms that Tony Crane and Cullen Moss have been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming season. Crane, who plays JJ’s twisted father Chandler Groff, made a shocking impact in Season 4 when he murdered his own son in the finale. Moss, meanwhile, returns as Sheriff Victor Shoupe, the Outer Banks lawman who has long been entangled in the show’s ever-deepening web of secrets.
The announcement comes as Outer Banks begins filming its swan song in Charleston, South Carolina. Though Netflix has confirmed Season 5 will mark the end of the series, they haven’t yet pinned down a specific release date—only that it will premiere sometime in 2026.
Fresh production photos released alongside the cast updates show several familiar faces back on set, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, and Carlacia Grant. Austin North and Fiona Palomo are also confirmed to return, though not pictured.

Notably missing from both the photos and the returning cast list is Rudy Pankow, whose beloved character JJ met a tragic end in the Season 4 finale. After handing over the coveted Blue Crown to his father Groff to save Kiara, JJ was fatally stabbed by the man he once longed to know. He died in Kiara’s arms after uttering a heartbreaking goodbye.
The season closed with the Pogues grieving around a campfire. As they processed JJ’s death, Rafe reminded them Groff was likely headed for Lisbon—and the group agreed: they would go after him. Kiara’s final words made it clear that vengeance will fuel the story ahead.
With new series regulars, lingering grief, and a globe-trotting mission for justice in the mix, Netflix‘s Outer Banks Season 5 is shaping up to be an emotional, action-packed conclusion.
