Netflix drops chilling teaser and first look at Monster: The Ed Gein Story, with Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan calling it the best season yet!
Netflix has unveiled the first official teaser and images for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series. The chilling new season will premiere on October 3 exclusively on Netflix.
The latest chapter introduces the man whose crimes reshaped American horror. Known as a serial killer, grave robber, and recluse, Ed Gein lived on a crumbling farm in 1950s Wisconsin while hiding unspeakable horrors within. His twisted acts, driven by isolation, psychosis, and obsession with his mother, inspired some of the most iconic figures in cinema history — from Psycho’s Norman Bates to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface and The Silence of the Lambs’ Buffalo Bill.
Ryan Murphy, co-creator and executive producer, explained the guiding principle of the anthology to Tudum: “The thesis statement of every season is: are monsters born or are they made? I think in Ed’s case, it’s probably a little of both.”
Ian Brennan, who wrote every episode of the season and also serves as co-creator and executive producer, promised this year’s story will raise the stakes: “I think this is the best season of the three, and I think it’s going to blow people’s socks off.”
Star Charlie Hunnam echoed the sentiment, describing the series as a raw and emotional portrait: “This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did.”
The season boasts a powerhouse creative team. Alongside Murphy and Brennan, executive producers include Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, and Charlie Hunnam. Brennan directs episodes 304 and 305, with Winkler helming 301, 302, 303, and 306 through 308.
The cast is led by Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, and Suzanna Son, with additional appearances from Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story will dive into how one seemingly ordinary man became a figure of horror whose crimes not only shocked the world but also created a blueprint for the monsters that continue to haunt pop culture. As the teaser declares: introducing the monster that inspired it all.
The series premieres October 3 on Netflix.
