Margot Robbie May Star In Tim Burton’s New Sci-Fi Remake

Margot Robbie in talks to star in Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake with LuckyChap set to produce the Warner Bros. film.

Margot Robbie may be going big — really big — in her next role. The Barbie star is in early discussions to team up with Tim Burton for a new version of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, a reimagining of the cult classic 1958 sci-fi horror film. If the deal moves forward, Robbie would star in and produce the Warner Bros. project through her production company LuckyChap, alongside partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.

The original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman follows a wealthy heiress who, after a mysterious alien encounter, grows to gigantic proportions and seeks vengeance on her unfaithful husband. Burton’s take on the material was first reported in February and marks yet another visually stylized entry in the filmmaker’s iconic resume, which includes The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice.

Though Burton is attached to direct and produce the remake — joined by Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper — the project is still in its early stages. Kai Dolbashian is set to executive produce. A first draft of the screenplay was penned by Gillian Flynn, best known for writing Gone Girl, but she has since stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts. Producers are currently looking for a new screenwriter, and Robbie’s commitment as star will depend on the revised script.

This would mark a major reunion for Warner Bros., who had massive success working with both Robbie and Burton in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Robbie’s Barbie, produced with LuckyChap, grossed $1.45 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year and the biggest in Warner Bros.’ 100-year history. In the wake of its triumph, the studio signed LuckyChap to a multi-year first-look deal for future features.

On Burton’s end, his 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice proved to be a long-awaited box office winner, raking in $452 million globally, nearly four decades after the original premiered.

Looking ahead, Robbie is also set to star in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, hitting theaters next February, and LuckyChap is currently developing a new Ocean’s Eleven film for Warner Bros. with Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung in talks to helm.

If all pieces come together, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman could be the next larger-than-life chapter for Robbie and another wildly imaginative project from Burton.
