HBO Max raises prices across all subscription plans effective immediately as Warner Bros. Discovery implements third price hike in three years amid streaming competition.
HBO Max is getting more expensive—again. Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new round of price increases for its streaming platform, marking the third hike in three years, with the changes going into effect immediately for new subscribers.
Starting Tuesday, October 21, the following new prices are now in place across all HBO Max plans:
Basic With Ads (stream on two devices simultaneously): $10.99/month (+$1) or $109.99/year (+$10)
Standard (no ads, two devices): $18.49/month (+$1.50) or $184.99/year (+$15)
Premium (no ads, 4K content, four devices): $22.99/month (+$2) or $229.99/year (+$20)
The new prices take effect immediately for new sign-ups. Current monthly subscribers will receive a 30-day notice before the new rates apply, starting with billing dates on or after November 20, 2025. Annual subscribers will see the change at their next renewal and will also be notified 30 days in advance.
This marks HBO Max’s latest price increase following hikes in June 2024 and January 2023, both part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to boost streaming profitability. The company also recently reverted the service’s name back to HBO Max, after a brief rebrand to simply “Max.”
The price adjustment comes amid a wave of similar moves across the streaming landscape. Disney+ and Hulu are also increasing prices on October 21, following earlier hikes by Netflix, Apple TV, and NBCUniversal’s Peacock, as the industry continues to balance rising costs with profitability goals.
HBO Max continues to stand out with a vast library that includes premium content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Turner Classic Movies, A24, and Studio Ghibli. Its collection features acclaimed series like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Succession, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, Hacks, The Penguin, and Peacemaker. The platform also offers fan-favorite comedies such as Friends, Abbott Elementary, Rick and Morty, and The Big Bang Theory, alongside films like Superman, A Minecraft Movie, and Sinners.
Looking ahead, the streamer has a robust lineup of upcoming titles including IT: Welcome to Derry, The Chair Company, and I Love LA, all set to premiere later this year. Fans can also look forward to the Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and new seasons of The Pitt and Industry in early 2026.
With prices climbing yet again, subscribers will soon be paying more for one of the streaming world’s most prestigious libraries—proof that even premium entertainment comes at an ever-rising cost.
