Spooky season is almost over but not quite yet! So, get comfy, grab that remote and let’s stream together the most magical witch movies available now on HBO Max.

The Blair Witch Project

This is the ultimate classic for horror fanatics and truly one of the best of its kind. The Blair Witch Project was a perfect storm of being published just as the internet was starting to take off, along with the concept of ‘found footage,’ which means that what you’re seeing is supposed to be raw video material that someone has left and is un-edited which elevates the horror experience overall. The story follows three film students who vanish after filming a documentary about the local Blair Witch myth in Burkittsville Maryland Their footage that is left behind shows the true terror of what happened to them.

I Married A Witch

For true cinephiles looking for a witchy twist, this black-and-white film is perfect for a cozy Halloween movie night. As she is ready to be killed at the stake for witchcraft, 17th-century witch Jennifer (Veronica Lake) lays a hex on her accuser’s family, dooming all future generations of men to marry the wrong women. After being released from her ethereal prison some 250 years later, Jennifer decides to make the most recent descendant of her accuser (Fredric March) even more miserable by dosing him with a love potion that causes him to fall in love with her, a scheme that has unanticipated consequences.

Practical Magic

This film is a cult classic adapted from an enchanting book, written by Alice Hoffman. Two witch sisters (Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman) living in a tiny village with their eccentric aunts endure prejudice and a curse that threatens to keep them from ever finding lasting love. The two sisters must use their magic to destroy the evil spirit before it tries to kill them.

Kiki’s Delivery Service

Perhaps one of the most well-known Studio Ghibli gems out there. This bewitched anime follows Kiki who moves to a coastal town with her talking cat, Jiji, to spend a year alone, as is typical for witches in training in her village. Kiki starts a flying delivery business after learning to manage her broomstick and quickly becomes a town staple. However, as the insecure young witch begins to doubt herself and loses her magical powers, she must overcome her self-doubt in order to regain her powers.

The Witch

This one is definitely not for the faint of heart. This modern classic starring Anya Taylor-Joy features age-old themes of witchcraft, black magic, and possession which are innovatively blended together to create the personal and captivating narrative for an exquisitely crafted new-age horror experience. The film tells the story of a family in 1630s New England which is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.
