Netflix’s Haunted Hotel, from Rick & Morty’s Matt Roller, brings horror comedy to life as a single mom and her ghost brother run a supernatural inn this September.
Netflix is about to welcome guests into a lodging experience like no other with the upcoming adult animated comedy Haunted Hotel, set to premiere September 19, 2025. The ten-episode, half-hour series comes from creator Matt Roller (Rick & Morty) and blends horror, comedy, and family drama into a uniquely spooky stay.
The show follows a single mother of two as she struggles to keep a haunted hotel in business. Her unlikely business partner? Her estranged brother — now one of the resident ghosts — who’s convinced that some of the other spirits have surprisingly good ideas.
In a statement about the series, Roller teased what audiences can expect:
“I can’t wait for everyone to meet the Freeling family and see how they tackle nightmare guests and ghosts in our beautifully animated hotel. This is a show for fans of comedy, horror, horror comedy, families, hotels, cults, monsters with tentacles, monsters without tentacles, werewolves, and blenders.”
The cast includes Will Forte as Nathan, Eliza Coupe as Katherine, Skyler Gisondo as Ben, Natalie Palamides as Esther, and Jimmi Simpson as Abaddon.
Behind the scenes, Haunted Hotel is backed by an impressive creative team. Executive producers include Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon (Rick & Morty), Steve Levy, and Roller himself. Animation comes from Titmouse, with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina also serving as executive producers. Erica Hayes (Rick & Morty) steps in as supervising director.
The release of Haunted Hotel is part of Netflix’s celebration of its adult animated comedy slate this month, which also includes the debut of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed on August 13 and Raphael Bob-Waksberg’s Long Story Short on August 22. The streamer has been at the forefront of adult animation for over a decade, beginning with the groundbreaking BoJack Horseman, followed by hits like Big Mouth, F Is for Family, Disenchantment, and Tuca & Bertie.
With its mix of eccentric ghosts, dysfunctional family ties, and absurd humor, Haunted Hotel looks set to become the latest must-watch in Netflix’s growing library of bold and culturally defining animated comedies.
