The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will hit theaters April 3, 2026, with Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black reprising their voice roles.
Chris Pratt is officially suiting up as Mario once again. Illumination and Nintendo have announced that the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s record-breaking The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.

The new film arrives nearly three years after the original became an international phenomenon, earning more than $1 billion worldwide and securing its place as the 18th highest-grossing movie of all time. The first film also made history with a staggering $377 million global opening, the biggest ever for an animated release.
In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, audiences can expect to see Mario’s world expand beyond the Mushroom Kingdom. A first glimpse of the project shows Mario dozing under a tree, only for a butterfly to flutter past Princess Peach’s castle and soar into the vastness of outer space, hinting at a much bigger adventure.
Chris Pratt will reprise his role as the beloved plumber, joined once again by Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who helmed the original, the sequel is based on Nintendo’s 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy.
The 2007 title introduced fans to an interstellar adventure in which Mario must rescue Princess Peach after Bowser abducts her using a flying saucer. Along the way, Mario encounters new planets, galaxies, and allies, including the star-shaped companion Luma, who becomes key to his journey.
Nintendo and Illumination first confirmed development of the sequel in March 2024, saying at the time, “We’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story.”
While details about new characters and cast additions remain under wraps, fans can expect The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to bring a fresh and expansive take on Mario’s world when it hits theaters April 3, 2026.
