Following a $100M global theatrical run and SXSW acclaim, The Accountant 2 starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal hits Prime Video on June 5.
The Accountant 2 is ready to balance your summer watchlist. Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that the action-packed sequel, starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, will begin streaming globally on Prime Video starting Thursday, June 5.
The release follows a successful theatrical run in April, during which The Accountant 2 grossed over $100 million worldwide. The film made its debut at this year’s SXSW, where it earned strong praise and took home the Headliner Audience Award, a testament to the film’s powerful return and the continued appeal of its complex protagonist.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the sequel picks up where the original 2016 thriller left off. Ben Affleck returns as Christian Wolff, a mathematical genius with autism who lives a double life as a forensic accountant for criminal enterprises. When an old acquaintance is found dead and leaves behind the ominous message “find the accountant,” Wolff is pulled into a dangerous investigation.
Realizing he can’t solve it alone, he turns to his estranged brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), a highly trained and lethal operative. Together, with the help of U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy and quickly find themselves hunted by a ruthless network intent on keeping their secrets hidden at any cost.
The sequel also stars Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, and J.K. Simmons, and was written by original screenwriter Bill Dubuque. Ben Affleck, along with Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, produced the film.
The original The Accountant made a surprising impact upon release, earning $155 million worldwide before becoming the most-rented digital film the following year. It introduced audiences to Wolff’s unique mix of intellect, combat skills, and emotional complexity, and its cult following has only grown since.
Now, nearly a decade later, The Accountant 2 is proving there’s still plenty of interest in Christian Wolff’s story. With streaming rights now housed at Amazon MGM thanks to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon‘s Artists Equity acquiring the sequel rights from Warner Bros., the franchise is poised for continued growth—especially with talk of a third installment already underway.
