Everything You Need to Know About ‘AIR’!

We can’t wait to see the Michael Jordan biopic AIR! Here are some interesting facts about the upcoming film. 

Director Ben Affleck met the star of AIR, Matt Damon, 40+ years ago. Damon and Affleck would regularly travel to New York together in high school to pursue acting. They eventually landed a role on School Ties, their first big appearance together. The duo then went on to win an Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting. These two stars have lots of chemistry that was built over decades, and their latest collaboration on AIR is sure to be great.

The movie is relatively low budget, estimated at $20-30 million. The film is predicted to reach $100 million at the box office worldwide. The film is being produced by Amazon and the studio invested $7 million on a Super Bowl ad, and the film will have a large theatrical release of more than 3,000 screens. This shows the faith the studio has in this film because this is unusual for streaming platforms.

AIR is set to release in theaters on April 5, and it will only be released in theaters at first, despite being an Amazon production. The movie will later be released on the streaming platform, but not until after it’s done some huge box office numbers.

The cast for AIR is star-studded. Ben Affleck will play Phil Knight, and Matt Damon will play Sonny Vaccaro. Major stars also include Viola Davis (Deloris Jordan), Marlon Wayans (George Raveling), Chris Tucker (Howard White), Jason Bateman (Rob Strasser), and Julius Tennon (James R. Jordan).

The movie will follow the story of how Nike signed Micheal Jordan in 1984. This was Jordan’s rookie season, and Adidas and Converse were dominating the sneaker industry at the time. Nike offered Jordan a 5-year $500,000 per year deal. In the first year alone, Jordan sneakers sold $126 million, eventually selling $5.1 billion in fiscal 2022.

Michael Jordan met Sonny Vaccaro through George Raveling, who was the assistant coach of the national team. Vaccaro convinced Michael Jordan to sign with Nike through a huge deal, extra prizes, and a cut of the profits. Jordan eventually became a Five-time NBA MVP, Six-time NBA Champion, and Six-Time NBA Finals MVP, among countless other accolades. He is widely considered the greatest player ever in the sport and changed the trajectory of the Nike company forever.
