Reese Witherspoon names Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy as her November 2025 Reese’s Book Club pick, calling it a breathtaking, twist-filled family drama set on a remote island near Antarctica.
Reese Witherspoon is keeping readers on their toes this fall. The Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama star — and founder of the beloved Reese’s Book Club — has unveiled her November 2025 pick: Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. The novel, which Witherspoon describes as a “breathtaking novel of romance, mystery, and twists that will shock you,” blends climate fiction, family drama, and psychological suspense into one haunting story.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, Witherspoon shared her excitement over the pick in two posts. “Our November @ReesesBookClub pick is Wild Dark Shore and I’m still thinking about the ending!” she wrote, adding that her friends at @applebooks are giving away 1,000 free eBooks. The giveaway is available exclusively in the U.S. and on Apple devices, with terms applying.

The Morning Show star teased the novel’s intense conclusion. “I’m not going to tell you what happens,” she said, “but boy is the ending scary and tense. Like the craziest ending of a thriller movie.”
Published in March 2025, Wild Dark Shore centers on a mysterious woman who washes up on the remote island of Shearwater, near Antarctica. Rescued by a father and his three children — the last remaining inhabitants of the island — she becomes part of their fragile world as rising seas and violent storms threaten to erase everything they know. As hope begins to bloom again, secrets unravel, revealing that both the stranger and the island are hiding dark truths.
Author Charlotte McConaghy is no stranger to emotionally charged, nature-driven storytelling, having penned Migrations (2020) and Once There Were Wolves (2021). Her latest work continues to explore the beauty and brutality of human and environmental resilience.
Fans of Witherspoon’s book club quickly flooded her comments with excitement. “This book haunted me in the very best way,” one reader wrote, while another shared, “What an amazing choice! This book was such a beautiful, emotional, and propulsive read.” Many praised the pick as one of her most thrilling yet, with one follower writing, “I can’t wait to read.”
Witherspoon’s passion for storytelling continues to shine beyond the screen. As a powerhouse producer through her company Hello Sunshine — which produces The Morning Show and other acclaimed projects — she has built Reese’s Book Club into a literary movement highlighting stories centered on strong, complex women.
Earlier this year, Witherspoon named Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall as her favorite book of 2025. But judging by the early buzz surrounding Wild Dark Shore, her latest pick might just give it some serious competition.
