Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga Return For The Conjuring Finale

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reunite as Ed and Lorraine Warren for one final terrifying case in The Conjuring: Last Rites, out September 5.

Get ready for one final ride into the paranormal — The Conjuring universe is preparing its ultimate chapter. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are officially back as famed supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: Last Rites, hitting theaters September 5. This marks the beloved duo’s last appearance in the long-running horror franchise that has terrified and thrilled audiences for over a decade.

Last Rites is based on the chilling true story of the Smurl family haunting in Pennsylvania during the 1980s. In what promises to be an emotional and intense final chapter, the Warrens must once again face demonic forces — but this time, with a deeper sense of reckoning. As Farmiga revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “This one’s different than the others. The other three were about hauntings, and this one is about reckoning, in a way… It’s a moment that makes time stand still.”

The film follows the legacy of 2013’s The Conjuring, 2016’s The Conjuring 2, and 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, as well as its successful spinoffs like Annabelle, The Nun, and The Nun II. Directed by Michael Chaves and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing, the film also introduces new cast members Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson. Last Rites is produced by horror heavyweights James Wan and Peter Safran.

Wilson and Farmiga’s final turn as the Warrens is already tugging at fans’ heartstrings. After wrapping filming in November 2024, the pair took to Instagram to reflect on their 12-year journey together. Farmiga posted a throwback photo of the duo in wedding attire, writing, “Roundabout 5000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embodying Ed and Lorraine Warren. Here’s to 12 years. I cherish you.”

Wilson echoed the sentiment in his own post: “Our fake marriage has lasted longer than many real ones. As the sun sets on the Conjuring franchise… I am overwhelmed.” He thanked the thousands involved in the making of the films and the millions who’ve watched them over the years.

Real-life Ed and Lorraine Warren, who inspired the franchise, passed away in 2006 and 2019 respectively. They are survived by their daughter Judy Spera. Their legacy continues to captivate fans around the world, and Last Rites looks set to deliver a powerful final chapter.

Brace yourself — The Conjuring: Last Rites opens September 5 and promises a final case you won’t forget.
