We are so excited about the new rom-com starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell! ‘Anyone But You’ debuts in theaters on December 22nd, and here is everything you need to know before watching it on the big screen!
Will Gluck’s new film, Anyone But You, is one of the most highly anticipated rom-coms of this year. The two stars of the film, Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun’s Glen Powell have undeniable chemistry. They even sparked infidelity rumors from their press appearances at CinemaCon over the summer. The two both respect one another and enjoyed filming together, even exploring Sydney, Australia together.

Sweeney and Powell are excited for fans to see their new humorous and heated 1 hour and 44-minute film.
The R-rated rom-com is based on William Shakespere’s Much Ado About Nothing, with an enemies-to-lovers trope. Bea and Ben met in college and had a great first date. However, their spark extinguishes, and they quickly get burned. They turn into enemies and unexpectedly reunite years after graduation at a wedding in Australia. One of the brides (Bea’s sister) fears their tension will ruin the marriage. However, the two end up teaming up as a fake couple after learning about the presence of their exes. Ben hopes to make his ex jealous, while Bea hopes to avoid hers. They believe they are fooling the other wedding guests, but perhaps they are only fooling themselves. Sydney Sweeney plays Bea and tells Entertainment Tonight that the film “gives love, it gives humor, it gives sex.”

Sweeney also acts as an Executive Producer, working alongside the director, Will Gluck. Gluck is known for other classic romantic comedies like Friends With Benefits and Easy A. He worked with the writer Ilana Wolpert, who has worked on Disney +’s High School Musical series. The brides are played by Hadley Robinson (Winning Time) and Alexandra Shop (Barbie). Bea’s ex is played by the Never Have I Ever actor Darren Barnet. Dermot Mulroney also stars as one of the parents in an ode to the timeless wedding rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding. The other members include Rachel Griffiths, Bryan Brown, and Michelle Hurd, who play the parents of the brides.
Sony Pictures released a full two-and-a-half-minute trailer on November 16, 2023. It first shows the two exes meeting on the plane to the wedding in Australia. Ben even says, “There’s no way we can convince anyone we actually like each other.” They go through humorous and streamy lengths to prove their “fake love” to others. You can even feel the tension when announcing the trailer.
Make sure to check out Anyone But You in theaters exclusively on December 22. It will be available on Netflix months after its release.
