With summer well underway, there’s no doubt you’ve been looking for some good reading material to go along with the amazing weather! Thankfully, some celebrities have taken to social media to get the word out on amazing books currently available.

Reese Witherspoon

For her monthly Reese’s Book Club pick, actress Reese Witherspoon chose The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller. This captivating novel follows twenty-four hours of a woman who is torn between the life she could have lived with her childhood love and the life she has with her husband and family. It’s a thrilling read that makes an excellent addition to one’s book collection.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Earlier this summer, Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker was reading Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America, a book by Marcia Chatelain that focuses on the effects McDonald’s and other fast food chains have had on some of the most vulnerable communities in America. Insightful and informative, Chatelain’s novel would be a valuable read this summer.

Oprah

For Oprah’s Book Club, the all-around icon chose The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris, a novel that follows two freedmen during the waning days of the Civil War. In addition to this gripping narrative, it’s paralleled with the story of two Confederate soldiers who kindle a forbidden romance.

Emma Roberts

Earlier this month, the American Horror Story actress shared that she was reading a first edition of Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion, a collection of essays describing the author’s experiences in California throughout the 1960s. Considered an essential portrait of America throughout that decade, Joan Didion’s work touches on celebrity, growing up in California, and the prevalence of counterculture in the San Francisco area.

Joe Lo Truglio

When he’s not making us laugh on the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, actor Joe Lo Trugilo has been reading some pretty interesting books. Most recently The Devil May Dance by Jake Tapper. Tapper’s mystery thriller revolves around Charlie and Margaret Marder’s investigation that involves a wide array of stars and powerful people, such as Frank Sinatra and President John F. Kennedy. The mystery and story go even deeper, making a gripping read about power and corruption within the 1960s.

Chelsea Handler

Comedian and actress Chelsea Handler has recently been reading Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, a novel about four famous siblings and the secrets that they choose to keep from their family. Reid’s book takes place over the course of one night and has an immensely compelling narrative, perfect for a thrilling summer read.

Zoe Saldana

Actress Zoe Saldana recently shared that she was reading The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation, written by Anna Malaika Tubbs. The Three Mothers is a fascinating exploration of the lives of three women overlooked by history and is an immensely insightful summer read.
