Black Doves Season 2 Begins Production With New Stars

Black Doves season 2 begins production as Netflix confirms an expanded cast led by Ambika Mod, Babou Ceesay, Sam Riley, Neve Campbell, and more joining returning stars Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire.

Production is officially underway on Season 2 of Netflix’s critically acclaimed spy thriller Black Doves — and the series is leveling up with a roster of high-profile new cast members joining its returning stars.

Netflix announced that Black Doves has gone back into production, with filming currently taking place in and around London. Among the newest additions to Season 2 is Ambika Mod (One Day), who takes on the role of Laila, described as an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent sent to assist Helen on a mission. Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) joins as Mr. Conteh, a Black Doves executive whose motivations may not be as clear as they seem. Sam Riley (Firebrand) steps into the role of Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organization offering Sam an unexpected lifeline. Neve Campbell (Scream) has also signed on to play Cecile Mason.

Additional new cast members include Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) as Katia Chernov, Goran Kostic (Canary Black, Ant-Man and The Wasp) as Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett (Lee) as Jerry.

They join returning cast members Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire, along with Andrew Buchan, Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey, and Molly Chesworth.

Creator Joe Barton celebrated the show’s return to production, saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favorite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same again…”

Executive producers Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry added, “It’s a thrill to be back in Joe Barton’s world of love, lies and espionage, and to be partnering once again with Netflix on Black Doves. Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire have packed away the Christmas jumpers, and are set to return in spectacular form, joined by some season one favourites, and a brilliant new cast who bring wit, danger and a few perfectly timed surprises. Season two is bigger, bolder — and just as delightfully unpredictable.”

Anne Mensah, Netflix UK’s VP of Content, expressed similar excitement: “To say we are over excited about welcoming the Black Doves team back to Netflix would be an understatement. This is what happens when best in class writing meets best in class directing and extraordinary acting in a dark alley with guns and champagne. We couldn’t be more thrilled and we know the Black Doves fandom is waiting!”

Season 2 Logline

Helen (Keira Knightley) continues betraying her country’s secrets for the covert organization she serves: the Black Doves. But with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) preparing to become Prime Minister after the chaos of last Christmas, the danger surrounding her is greater than ever.

Helen’s handler, Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire), finds herself caught in a ruthless plot aimed at weakening her standing within the Black Doves. Meanwhile, Helen reunites with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw), a once-elite triggerman now reduced to lonely drinks and low-grade hits. Their search for answers forces them through old alliances, buried betrayals, and the destructive choices of their pasts — all while loyalties are weaponized and trust becomes deadly. With the same explosive wit as Season 1, their mission leads them straight into the heart of the Black Doves.
