What Ever Happened To Your Favorite Vine Stars?

It seems like only yesterday Vine was the biggest app around and created some of our favorite content creators, but where are they now? Catch up with stars like Cameron Dallas, King Bach, and many more below! 

Wildly popular entertainment and social media app TikTok dominates audiences of all communities. When praising the site, we would be remised not to mention the dominant predecessor for short meme-driven videos, Vine. The so-called death of Vine in 2016 marked a tragic end to a young adult cultural staple. As we ease, or jump headfirst, into the content of rising TikTok stars, it’s easy to forget about the original pioneers of such a line of work. Well, whatever happened to those faces we gawked and giggled at for numerous six-second intervals? Read on to discover how the last five years variously impacted some of your favorite Vine stars.  

Zach King

31-year-old Zach King is known for, what he calls, his “digital sleight of hand.” King began posting videos on YouTube in 2008 and subsequently on Vine in 2013. After graduating from Southern California’s Biola University in 2012 with a degree in cinema and media arts, he acquired an impressive repertoire of skills as well as a creative, unique, and recognizable editing style. In 2015, Zach and his wife Rachel Holm competed in the 28th season of The Amazing Race and placed sixth. After Vine, Zach has been keeping busy! In 2016, he voiced “Muzzled Wolf” in Disney’s Zootopia and co-directed and starred in the Turkish Airlines safety video, highlighting the same sleight of hand for which he is known. In 2021, King played himself in Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered and FXX’s Dave. Zach has now found a great following TikTok, appearing to pick up from where his Vine career left off. Zach King is now the fifth most-followed account on the wildly popular app, with 65.7 million followers. 

Brittany Furlan  

35-year-old comedian and actor Brittany Furlan was the most followed female star on Vine. On the app, Furlan was most known for her witty and relatable comedy sketches. Since Vine’s ending, Brittany has been awarded a lot of exposure in the industry. In 2015, she was placed on Time’s list of the most influential people on the internet. Furlan has made appearances in the Netflix documentary, The American Meme, MTV’s Ridiculousness, E!’s The Soup, the 22nd season of America’s Next Top Model, and even in the music video for Pitbull’s hit song “Fireball.” She has been romantically involved with Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe since early 2017, and the pair were married in February of 2019. Brittany also vlogs on her YouTube channel and has shared a ton of content through her podcast, Worst Firsts. Be sure to check Brittany out on TikTok!

Logan Paul

Logan Paul, now 26-years-old, is no stranger to the spotlight. Paul was first known for his comedy sketches on Vine, but, albeit having found himself at the center of some controversy over the years, he has branched into various areas of entertainment. After Vine, he has made guest appearances on shows like Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Disney’s Bizaardvark, in which his brother, Jake, was a lead. In 2016, Paul starred opposite Jessie’s Peyton List in a YouTube Red film, The Thinning (and subsequently in the production’s 2018 sequel) and in Comcast’s Logan Paul VS. In addition, Paul wrote the screenplay and starred in the 2019 movie, Airplane Mode, featuring many other ex-Vine stars. Paul has also dipped his toe into the music scene with releases like 2016’s, you guessed it, “2016.” Further, Paul branched into wrestling under the name, “The Maverick,” referencing his day one Vine costar, pet parrot Maverick. Recently, Logan participated in the fifth season of The Masked Singer as “Grandpa Monster,” aligning with similar humor to his Vine content. Logan Paul’s podcast, Impaulsive, has almost 3.5 million subscribers and his TikTok has 13 million followers. As of summer 2021, Paul has relocated to Dorado, Puerto Rico.

Us The Duo

Us The Duo began as a singing pair on Vine in 2013. They are most known for their angelic voices and recognizable filming style of placing the camera just below their eyes. Members, spouses, and now parents to three-year-old Xyla, Michael and Carissa Alvarado were signed to Republic Records in 2014. After Vine, the pair joined popular acapella group Pentatonix on their 2016 World Tour. Lele Pons

Venezuelan-born 25-year-old Lele Pons has had a pretty successful career thanks to Vine. In 2016, after the closing of the app, Pons signed with entertainment company Shots Studios. Lele has released a jewelry collection entitled “UNO Magnetic,” co-authored novel Surviving High School, starred in the YouTube Red RomCom We Love You, appeared in MTV’s Scream and has branched into the music industry. Lele has not only starred in Camila Cabello’s Havana video but also released her debut single, “Dicen,” in May of 2018 and “Celoso” in the same year. In the same vein, Pons took over hosting of La Voz… México, the Mexican version of NBC’s The Voice. In 2020, Lele Pons starred in the YouTube docuseries, The Secret Life of Lele Pons, in which she opens up about her struggles with mental health. Today, Lele continues her content creation on TikTok with 24.8 million followers!

Cameron Dallas 

A Vine deep-dive would not be complete without pointing out the app’s contribution to the e-boy community. Original e-boy Cameron Dallas, now 27 years old, found quick fame before and after the app’s ending. On Vine, he was most notably known for his participation in MAGCON (meet and greet convention) with fellow Vine heartthrobs. In 2014 and 2015, Dallas starred in films Expelled and The Outfield, both released through Video on Demand. In 2015 he also starred in two episodes of the NBC series American Odyssey. Then, in 2016, he starred in his own Netflix reality show, Chasing Cameron. In fact, in 2017, Dallas mustered up 20 million Instagram followers, making him the second most followed account at the time. In 2020, he took over the highly professional role of Aaron Samuels in the Broadway musical Mean Girls. Following, he benefitted from this entrance into the musical world and released his first album, Dear Scarlett. To rejoin the fanbase, you can become one of Cameron’s 17.7 million followers on TikTok

Nash Grier

Nash Grier, full name Hamilton Nash Grier, is now 23 years old. While being the second most followed account on Vine, Grier captured the attention of fans everywhere with his comedy sketches and MAGCON participation. This North Carolina-raised e-boy has appeared on various talk shows including ABC’s Good Morning America and The View. In 2015, Grier co-starred in The Outfield with close friend Cameron Dallas, and in 2017, he appeared in Netflix’s You Get Me with co-star Bella Thorne. Now, Nash Grier is engaged to Taylor Giavasis and the two share a son, Malakai, born in September of 2019. Now, father Nash posts adorable content of Malakai on TikTok. 

Jack and Jack

Continuing with our MAGCON boys, Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinksy, known by most as “Jack and Jack,” captured the hearts of many during their run on Vine. After meeting in kindergarten, best friends Jack and Jack have shared a bromance like no other. The pair began as a comedy duo on Vine and, since the closing of the app, have ventured into the music industry. Their first original song, “Distance” was released in 2014 and the Jacks went on to collaborate with famous DJ Steve Aoki and fellow MAGCON star Shawn Mendes. Their single “Like That” topped the Billboard charts and their 2015 EP, Calibraska, reached number one on the US iTunes charts; the duo subsequently signed with Island Records. In 2019, they released a debut album, A Good Friend Is Nice, and toured around North America and Europe. Independently, in 2020 Jack Gilinsky released his debut solo single, “My Love,” featuring Don Toliver. The same year he also released a second single, “Lose Somebody,” featuring Iann Dior. Jack Johnson, under the name JVCKJ also released a debut solo single in 2020 entitled, “You Lie,” as well as six other songs. The duo of “Jack and Jack” announced a hiatus in 2020 but are now both featured in a podcast entitled Outta Pocket 

Liza Koshy

A prominent post-Vine celebrity you have most likely seen around the internet is 25-year-old Texan Liza Koshy. After Vine, Liza immediately found work in Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween and the Hulu series Freakish. In fact, in 2016 Koshy had the opportunity to interview former President Barack Obama on her YouTube channel to encourage voter registration. Since 2018, she has produced and starred in Liza on Demand on YouTube Premium. In 2019, Liza Koshy was placed on both Time’s list of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet and in Forbes 30 Under 30 Hollywood and Entertainment list! Recently, Koshy voiced Zipp Storm in the 2021 Netflix movie, My Little Pony: A New Generation. Today, Liza has amassed 29.1 million followers on TikTok.

Amanda Cerny 

30-year-old Amanda Cerny remains in the entertainment industry as an actor, model, and entrepreneur. Cerny most likely gained a following before Vine as a model; she was Playboy magazine’s Playmate of the Month in October of 2011. After Vine, she has been featured in several music videos, namely Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know” and Cardi B’s “I Like It.” On-screen, she appeared in Logan Paul’s Airplane Mode, Netflix’s 2020 film The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Paramount Plus’s 2021 iCarly reboot. Amanda Cerny now considers herself a content creator and influencer, specializing in wellness and fitness. Fun fact, Amanda is now a UN environmental ambassador! You can check her out at her website or on TikTok where she has 9.6 million followers.

Andrew Bachelor, better known as King Bach from Vine, is a 33-year-old Canadian-American actor. Before Vine, he booked a reoccurring role on Fox’s The Mindy Project. On the app, he earned the title of the most followed user on the platform! His success on the app has translated into a fruitful acting career. From 2014-2015, Bach starred in Adult Swim’s Black Jesus. In 2016, he acted in the comedy films Meet the Blacks, produced by Hidden Empire Film Group, and Open Road Films’ Fifty Shades of Black. Following, in 2018 he broke into the teen romance category and booked roles in both Netflix’s When We First Met and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Recently, King Bach appeared in the 2020s The Babysitter: Killer Queen, STX Entertainment’s Greenland, and Netflix’s Holidate. In 2021, he appeared in Hulu’s Vacation Friends. On TikTok, King Bach has 23.7 million followers!

Jérôme Jarre   

French Vine star Jérôme Jarre is not only a creator but an entrepreneur and humanitarian. On Vine, Jarre moved his way up the ranks and created with acclaimed celebrities like Ariana Grande, Kristen Bell, Robert De Niro, and even Beyonce! In 2013, Jarre co-founded a talent agency for Vine and Snapchat stars like himself, GrapeStory. In 2017, he started a campaign for Turkish Airlines to deliver aid to those in Somalia suffering from a drought and helped raise nearly $4 million- way to use your status for good Jarome!! 

Of course, there are so many other stars from Vine that still create content to this day! Honorable mentions include Grammy-winning artist Shawn Mendes, YouTube’s Cody Ko, and yes, David Dobrik, from the Tesla contest. If the emergence of still relevant celebrities from Vine has taught us anything, it’s that exposure can lead to crazy opportunities, and a unique, charismatic personality can get you very far in the modern world. We absolutely cannot wait to see where these Vine stars are ten years from now!
