‘The Marvels’: Where We Left Off With Each Character!

The Marvels is almost here! Everything in the Marvel universe connects, so it’s a good thing to look back on where each character was before watching the movie!

The movie hits theaters on November 10, 2023, and will be a sequel to the first Captain Marvel film. In addition, it is also a continuation of the Marvel miniseries, Ms. Marvel. The plot revolves around Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel teaming up after finding out that every time they use their powers they end up switching places. Before you see the movie, here’s a recap of what these characters were up to.

Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel

The first film showed how Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) found who she was on Earth and how she received her powers. At the end of the movie, she defeats the enemy and helps the Skrulls find a new place to live. She leaves a pager for Fury, in case he ever needs to reach her.

The last time we saw Captain Marvel in the Marvel Universe was in Avengers: Endgame where she rescues Tony Stark from a ship in deep outer space. She helps locate Thanos, but it’s too late to reverse the blip. She later returns in the movie in the final battle with the Avengers against Thanos and helps undo the blip. Since then, Captain Marvel has left Earth to travel to planets to help get rid of other villains.

Monica Rambeau

The character, Monica Rambeau was first introduced in Captain Marvel and is the daughter of Maria Rambeau, Carol Danver’s best friend on Earth. The character now portrayed by Teyonah Paris returned in the miniseries, WandaVision as a grown-up. She joined S.W.O.R.D and followed in her mother’s footsteps before the blip happened. She came back five years later and helped stop Wanda Maximoff who created the Hex over the town, Westview. Now, she has superpowers from the Hex and was recruited to join S.A.B.E.R which is an organization developed by Fury.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel

Kamala Khan first appeared in the miniseries, Ms. Marvel and is a teenage girl who is obsessed with Captain Marvel. The series shows how she becomes Ms. Marvel by receiving a golden bangle from her grandmother which grants her superpowers. She learns the origins of the bracelets and the dangers that come with it. In the end, she stops the agents who are after her and takes on the superhero name, Ms. Marvel. Additionally, she learns she has a genetic mutation that none of her family has and switches places with Captain Marvel after her bracelet mysteriously glows.

Nick Fury

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has been a big character in the Marvel universe since the very beginning. He assembled The Avengers and was the Director of S.H.I.E.l.D. The most recent Marvel miniseries, Secret Invasion largely focused on Fury after he returned to Earth to help the Skrull, Talos stop the Skrull Resistance led by Gravik. He struggled with losing people along the way and the possible betrayal of his wife. Fury prevailed in the end by saving the president’s life and defeating Gravik with the help of Talo’s daughter. He returned to the organization, S.A.B.E.R. in space with his wife joining him this time.
