The Best Reactions To the ‘Wonka’ Trailer and What We Know So Far!

The trailer for Paul King’s Wonka dropped, much to the excitement of fans on Twitter who had a lot to say about it. Starring Timothée Chalamet as a young Willy Wonka, audiences will get a closer look into the early days of the beloved character’s life.

On July 11, Warner Bros. Pictures released the trailer for the upcoming movie Wonka, directed by Paddington’s Paul King with Timothée Chalamet playing the title role. The film will serve as the origin story of Willy Wonka in what will be a prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Here’s everything we know about the movie so far and the best internet reactions to the trailer!

The Plot

The movie will take audience members on a journey with Willy Wonka they have not yet been on. Viewers will watch him meet the Oompa-Loompas and go on adventures that will lead him to open his chocolate factory. He will have to go up against the Chocolate Cartel, the villains of the story, who prohibit selling chocolate in the fictional town. Just based on the trailer it appears that the film will have a whimsical and fantasy-like take on the beloved story. Not much is known about the plot in its entirety as of now, but it is important to note that while there may be some similarities, the film does not hold any connection to the 1971 and 2005 adaptations.

The Cast

The film features a star-studded cast, with Timothée Chalamet, known for roles in Call Me By Your Name (2017) and Dune (2021), playing the lead role of Willy Wonka. Audiences got their first look at Chalamet in the role when the trailer dropped, and needless to say, it caused a lot of excitement. Chalamet’s costume is reminiscent of previous versions of the character, with his classic brown top hat and purple coat. Hugh Grant will appear as an Oompa-Loompa, Sally Hawkins as Wonka’s mother, and Rowan Atkinson as a priest. Other supporting actors include Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Davis, and Olivia Colman, although their roles are unknown as of now.

Release Date

After experiencing delays to its March 2023 release date, the film is now set to have a theatrical release on December 15, 2023. It is important to note that if SAG has not come to an agreement regarding fair wages, it is not likely the cast will do a press tour of any kind for the film.
