Today we remember the great Amy Winehouse on what would have been her 37th birthday by taking a look at some of her best songs.

Today we say “Happy Birthday” to the talented Amy Winehouse on what would have been her 37th birthday.

It’s hard to believe it has been 9 years since Amy Winehouse’s death. The world renowned singer passed away on July 23, 2011 and has been deeply mourned ever since. Today we celebrate her birthday and her career. Having changed the music world for the better, let’s take a look at a few of our favorite songs she’s ever sang.

“Back to Black”

Starting off the list with one of, if not her most, iconic song. “Back to Black” was the title track off Amy’s second and last studio album, also titled “Back to Black.” Written about an ex-lover, this song is beloved by many who can relate to heartache. The song is frequently covered today, even making appearances in The Great Gatsby and other films.

“You Know I’m No Good”

This Amy Winehouse original song is anything but ‘no good.’ This song is also off her 2007 album “Back to Black” and is another heart yearning song about her ex-lover. Popular band at the time, The Arctic Monkeys, covered this song a year after its release. Not that it needed the publicity, the song was a smash!

“Body and Soul”

Not written by Amy, this song is a jazz classic that started in the 1930s. Performed by legends such as Coleman Hawkins, it was a great day when Tony Bennett announced he would be duetting the song with Winehouse. The infamous Tony Bennett was not only a friend to Amy Winehouse, but someone she looked up to. The two were able to duet on the song in 2011 before she passed away. He shared this touching tweet today, remembering her.

“Valerie”

Another cover by Amy Winehouse, some fans might be shocked to know this isn’t an original song by her. The song was originally by English band The Zutons. However, Amy and her longtime friend Mark Ronson covered the song and instantly grew notoriety for it. Some associate the song solely with Amy, and considering her breathtaking vocals we aren’t surprised!

“Between the Cheats”

This song was released as part of Winehouse’s posthumous album collection titled “Lioness: Hidden Treasures.” This is one of the many songs in the collection relating to Winehouse’s difficulties with love and life. If you’ve got a cheating ex, this might be the song for you.

These are only a few of the many Amy Winehouse songs we have come to love. What songs do you think are missing from the list?
