Jamie Foxx leads an all-star cast in Netflix’s Fight for ’84, a powerful sports drama inspired by the U.S. Olympic boxing team’s road to redemption.
Netflix has revealed the full ensemble cast and confirmed that production is now underway in New Jersey for the upcoming sports drama feature Fight for ’84, starring Jamie Foxx and directed by Andrés Baiz.
The film tells the story of triumph born from tragedy. After the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team is tragically killed in a 1980 plane crash, a new coach is brought in to rebuild the team from scratch. Against all odds, he leads the athletes toward victory at the 1984 Olympics — where they go on to win the most medals in U.S. boxing history.
Joining Foxx in the ensemble are Shea Whigham (American Primeval, Boardwalk Empire), Dan Perrault (The Residence, American Vandal), Will Chase (Dopesick, Stranger Things), Algee Smith (Euphoria, Detroit), Jamir Cope, Mitchell Edwards (All American: Homecoming, The First Purge), Al-Shabazz Jabateh (Bel-Air, Grotesquerie), Tre McBride, Xavier Mills (Forever, Chad Powers), Adrian Martinez (Unfrosted, Crutch), and Javier Bolaños (Casa Grande, Casa Grande the Movie). The film also stars Malachi Beasley alongside Foxx.
The screenplay was written by Academy Award nominees Andrea Berloff and John Gatins, along with Andy Weiss. The film is produced by Eric Newman for Grand Electric, Bryan Unkeless for Night Owl, Jamie Foxx, and Michael W. Abbott for A Move Films Production. Andy Weiss serves as executive producer for A WeBros Entertainment Production, alongside Henry Tillman and Datari Turner.
Director Andrés Baiz, known for his work on Narcos and The Snow Girl, expressed his admiration for collaborating with Foxx, saying, “Teaming up with Jamie Foxx is incredibly exciting. He’s an exceptional actor with unmatched range and brings realness and depth you can’t fake. As star and producer, he brings passion and truth to the role. I’m eager to learn from him and, through honest direction, help him tap into something raw and deeply personal.”
With Baiz’s direction and Foxx’s powerhouse performance, Fight for ’84 promises to be an inspiring sports drama filled with heart, resilience, and redemption.
