Ironheart Footage Reveals Riri Williams in Action

New Ironheart footage reveals Riri Williams suiting up for battle in Marvel’s new Disney+ series with the trailer release set for tomorrow.

Marvel Studios just dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette for its upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart, giving fans an exciting first look at Dominique Thorne back in action as the tech-genius superhero. The full trailer is set to debut tomorrow, but this early sneak peek offers plenty to talk about—including new footage, cast insights, and confirmation of the show’s premiere date.

Ironheart is set to launch on June 24, kicking things off with its first three episodes. The series continues the story of Riri Williams, who first appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and now steps into the spotlight as she builds her own suit of armor and begins to carve out her place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The featurette includes interviews with Thorne, Marvel‘s Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum, and Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, who all shed light on Riri’s journey from student inventor to armored hero. Thorne reveals that she received heartfelt support from none other than Robert Downey Jr. himself, shortly after production wrapped. “Robert Downey Jr. and I spoke just after we wrapped, and he shared some very lovely words about my journey,” she shared. “He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it, too. I literally got two thumbs up.”

Riri’s rise, however, will look very different from Tony Stark’s high-tech, billionaire-funded origin story. As Thorne puts it, “She’s dumpster-diving, whereas Tony Stark [was] this bajillionaire. What she’s able to accomplish is remarkable.”

Though she may be resourceful, Riri will spend much of the show in a rugged prototype suit that fans have already glimpsed in teasers and promos. Winderbaum confirmed that Ironheart will feature a full practical suit, taking a page from the filmmaking techniques used in the original Iron Man. “It doesn’t obviously do all the crazy things that the suit does,” he said, “but we used a lot of techniques that go all the way back to the first Iron Man film.”

While Tony Stark may be gone in the MCU following Avengers: Endgame, his legacy is very much alive in Ironheart, as the series looks to honor and expand upon what he started. In the comics, Stark acts as a mentor to Riri, and though that dynamic won’t be the same here, the influence is undeniable.

The series also stars Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Regan Aliyah, Alden Ehrenreich, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White, with Sacha Baron Cohen rumored to appear as Mephisto—though Marvel has yet to confirm that detail.

With its mix of legacy, innovation, and a powerful young lead, Ironheart is shaping up to be a must-watch addition to the MCU when it hits Disney+ this summer.
