Peacock will exclusively stream Universal Pictures’ live-action How to Train Your Dragon on October 10 with the original trilogy and bonus features arriving earlier in the month.
The dragons are landing on streaming. Universal Pictures’ highly anticipated live-action How to Train Your Dragon will make its exclusive debut on Peacock beginning October 10. Fans won’t have to wait that long to revisit the beloved saga, as the full animated trilogy arrives on October 1, complete with a treasure trove of bonus content.
Directed by Oscar nominee Dean DeBlois, who also brought the original franchise to life, the live-action film stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast. The ensemble cast also includes Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Peter Serafinowicz, Nick Frost, and more.
The story takes audiences back to the Isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have clashed for generations. At the heart of the tale, Hiccup—son of Chief Stoick—forms an unlikely friendship with Toothless, the feared dragon who changes his destiny. As an ancient evil threatens their world, Hiccup, Astrid, and Toothless must show their people that only courage, loyalty, and unity can defeat the coming danger.
Running 125 minutes, the film is produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, with a screenplay by DeBlois based on the book by Cressida Cowell. Executive producers include David Cain, Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders, Doug Davison, Roy Lee, and Michael Connolly.
Ahead of the live-action premiere, Peacock will release the original trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon (2010), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014), and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)—on October 1. The franchise has already soared to over $1.6 billion in worldwide box office earnings and earned four Academy Award nominations.
Peacock subscribers will also gain access to the How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Collection, featuring over 90 minutes of bonus content, including deleted scenes and gag reel, building berk, a behind-the-scenes look at how the village was recreated for live action, Forbidden Friendship, with Thames performing the iconic sequence alongside a puppeteer, Test Drive, breaking down Hiccup’s first thrilling flight with Toothless, Love and Legacy: Making How to Train Your Dragon, an in-depth behind-the-scenes journey, Dreaming Up the Dragons, exploring the artistry behind bringing dragons to life, Soaring to Life, following DeBlois’ creative process on the live-action adaptation, Exploring the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe, giving fans a theme-park level immersion
The streaming debut continues Peacock’s strong slate of Universal titles in 2025, joining The Wild Robot, Wicked, Jurassic World Rebirth, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Nobody 2, The Bad Guys 2, and more. The Emmy-nominated Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy also premiered exclusively on Peacock earlier this year as a U.S. original.
With both the original films and the new live-action spectacle arriving within days of each other, Peacock is setting the stage for fans to relive the magic of dragons, Vikings, and epic friendship all in one place.
