Hardcore horror fans face a no-sleep test in “Survive Until Dawn” competitions across the U.S. ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
The countdown to terror is on — and only the strongest will make it to sunrise. In celebration of the upcoming Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions horror film Until Dawn, diehard fans across eight U.S. cities are being put to the ultimate test of fear, stamina, and sleep deprivation.
Kicking off Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. local time, the “Survive Until Dawn” screening competition dares contestants to stay awake through an all-night marathon of Until Dawn, played on loop until morning. The rules are strict: no phones, no bathroom breaks, and absolutely no dozing off. If you can’t handle the pressure, you’re out.
The challenge stretches into the early hours of Wednesday, April 23, with only one winner emerging in each city—the last horror fanatic standing, earning not just a prize, but major bragging rights as the ultimate survivor.
The spine-tingling event will take place in: Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., Denver, Atlanta, and Miami.
The film itself is just as twisted as the competition. Until Dawn follows Clover and her friends who, one year after her sister Melanie’s mysterious disappearance, venture into a remote valley in search of answers. There, they’re hunted by a masked killer and meet gruesome ends—only to wake up and relive the nightmare again and again. With each deadly reset, the killer changes, the terror intensifies, and the group begins to realize their time is running out. Their only shot at freedom? Survive until dawn.
Directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Blair Butler and Gary Dauberman, the film stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare. It’s based on the popular PlayStation Studios video game, and produced by Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, David F. Sandberg, Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Gary Dauberman, and Mia Maniscalco, with Charles Miller and Hermen Hulst serving as executive producers.
Until Dawn opens in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on April 25. But for the bravest fans, the nightmare begins three days earlier—if they can survive the night.
