Get to Know Musician Tom Odell!

Here’s all you need to know about the English “Another Love” singer, from humanitarian work to the BRIT awards.

For the TikTok fans out there, Tom Odell’s “Another Love” has long been a mainstay on the for-you page. The song was recorded 10 years ago, when Odell was only 19 years old, and initially appeared accompanying videos about heartbreak or iconic breakup scenes from films and television shows. Now, the English singer-songwriter’s hauntingly heartbreaking song has become an anthem for Ukrainian people amid the Russian invasion. Many users across the app have used the song to show acts of kindness between refugees, or the devastation many Ukrainian cities are currently experiencing.

Odell now looks forward to releasing his single “best day of my life” on March 30th, and working directly with Ukrainian refugees in the meantime. Here’s what you need to know about Tom Odell, and what he has coming next in his career.

Odell Won The Critics’ Choice Award at the BRIT Awards in 2013.

Shortly after the release of his debut album, a young Odell won his first BRIT award. He was fresh out of studying at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Brighton, where he initially played with a band called Tom and the Tides. Clearly, his choice to move to London and go solo paid off–ten years later, and the lead single off the record has still made a huge impact.

A surprised and humbled Odell traveled to Romania, one of several neighboring Eastern European countries accepting Ukrainian refugees, and performed the song live as a surprise for Ukrainian refugees entering Romania in the Bucharest Train Station. The video of the moving performance was uploaded to TikTok and Instagram reels, and rapidly helped raise money for the two organizations that Odell is supporting–Choose Love and JRS Romania.

Be on the lookout for this soulful singer–if just one song can impact a generation after ten years and a country in three weeks, they’re certainly worth a listen.
