Elena Matei talks with AfterBuzz TV about being a model, how covid changed things, and more!
Elena, you have been featured on many covers for top fashion magazines including; L’Officiel Italia, Elle Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar, and more. Can you tell us when your modeling career started?
“I was discovered when I first arrived in America, actually on my second day in the country. I was scouted while I was walking down 5th Avenue in NYC and my journey got started from there.”
Being an international model what were some challenges you faced in your career that you were able to overcome and helped you grow as a person?
“The constant travel for work in different countries has helped me grow as a person as it has made me stronger and opened my eyes to many different cultures.” Elena explains,” I try to learn from every experience I have, both good and bad. It’s also important to keep up with the trends and stay very focused in this business.”
When Covid started last year. How did that affect your modeling career and how did you overcome any challenges you faced during uncertain times?
“It was a challenging time, but I am grateful to have remained positive and to have found creative ways to continue working amidst the pandemic. I focused my energy on creating and expressing myself through music and am now gearing up to release a new album. I have a lot of compassion for everyone who encountered difficult situations during the pandemic.”
You have traveled around the world with your career. What was your favorite place to visit and why?
“Aside from the United States, one of my favorite places to visit is Italy. The people are so warm and welcoming, and they cook very well. Italy is also one of the fashion capitals of the world and is filled with beautiful family traditions that are passed down from generation to generation.”
You released a new song on February 12th called Magic World that you have written yourself. Tell us more about the single and what inspired you to write the song.
“Magic World is all about the pure, magical feelings and butterflies felt while being in love. This song is dreamy and makes you feel like you’re floating through euphoria. It was inspired by my own experience and moments from my real life”

You have shifted your focus for 2021 to start writing more songs. What can we expect with your upcoming tracks and what do you want your audience to take away from your music?
“Authenticity is very important to me. You can expect my upcoming tracks to stay true to that idea and for the underlying messages of my songs to be relatable for the audience.”
What goals would you like to achieve this year with your modeling career?
“I hope that 2021 will be a great year full of positivity and that things will start returning to normal. I’m really looking forward to a few exciting modeling projects I have in the works.”
Do you have a mentor or anyone who inspired you when you first started to pursue modeling and singing?
“I’ve been inspired throughout the years, but from the start, I think the biggest thing that’s inspired me was trusting my instinct that music was meant to be a part of my career.”
What advice would you tell someone who is interested in wanting to pursue their own career as a model or singer?
“I would advise anyone interested in pursuing a career in modeling or singing to be brave and ambitious and stay dedicated to the job as it can be difficult at times. I would also advise them to finish their studies as that’s so important as well.”
