The Oscars are almost here! We now know who was nominated, so here is everything else you need to know about this year’s ceremony!

The nominations for the 2023 Oscars have been announced! We will be tuning in on March 12th for the 95th Academy Awards, but while we wait, we are looking into everything you need to know about the ceremony.

This year is the only year since 1935 that the nominees for Best Actor are all first time nominees! In 1935 there were only 3 nominees, so this year will rewrite history with one of five first time nominees claiming the highest distinction in film.

The most nominations received for any film this year is Everything Everywhere All at Once, with 11 nominations, including the first Asian Woman to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress category. The other nominations include Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (twice), Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, and Best Film Editing!

The Oscars will be hosted once again by Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted twice before in 2017 and 2018 and it will be held at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Since this is the 95th anniversary of the Academy Awards and that means we are in for a unique experience. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer said, “It’s a moment to really reflect on our membership, all craft areas, our changing industry, our fans.” He also stated, “There are ways to do that, that are entertaining and authentic, and that are tied to our mission to honor excellence in movie making.”

Finally, for the first time ever, The Academy Awards will use members of the Academy who do not have a ticket to the show as seat-fillers. The Academy sent an email to all members with multiple reforms, including the new seat fillers. The seat-fillers are members who voted for The Oscars; they will be standing in for anyone who has to get out of their seat for any reason. This will help keep the theatre looking full and give a unique opportunity to some members.
