Everything We Know About Henry Cavill’s Spy-Comedy ‘Argylle’!

Henry Cavill will soon be in his James Bond era, playing a globe-trotting spy in the upcoming film. Read on to know more about his stint in the first installment of Apple’s spy franchise.

Henry Cavill might not play Man of Steel or Geralt of Rivia again, but fans can expect to see him soon back on the big screen in a thrilling action-adventure role! The action-comedy helmed by Matthew Vaughn is based on a yet-to-be-published spy novel from Elly Conway, which per Deadline was picked up by Apple in a landmark deal that cost the company $200 million. The movie starts a brand new spy franchise for the company and is the first in the planned trilogy.

Plot

The movie is billed as a “razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller”. It blurs the lines between reality and fiction as it follows Elly, a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is spending a night at home with her cat, Alfie. Her fictional books center on secret agent Argylle, who is on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate. However, things take a turn when her story parallels the covert actions of a real-life spy organization that comes behind her. Accompanied by Aiden, a cat-allergic spy, Elly goes on a run to stay one step ahead of the killers.

Cast

The movie has some brilliant performers at hand! While Cavill plays the titular spy, he’s accompanied by Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, Sam Rockwell as Aiden, pop sensation Dua Lipa as a femme fatale, and Catherine O’Hara as Elly’s mother. Further rounding off the cast are Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Rob Delaney, and Jing Lusi. The adorable cat, Alfie is Vaughn’s own feline pet, Chip.

Trailer

Apple has released the full-length trailer for Argylle that sees Cavill as the titular spy dancing with Lipa. While it presents all the spy tropes to excite fans, the twist comes when we realize Argylle is a literary character and when we see Elly going on the run. Set to a remixed version of Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds”, the trailer teases the viewers, “Once you know the secret, don’t let the cat out of the bag.”

Release Date

Apple has partnered with Universal to give the movie a short theatrical release. The feature will come to theatres on February 2, 2024, before hitting the streaming service on yet to be yet-to-be-announced date.
