Colin Farrell Confirms Return In The Batman Part II

Colin Farrell confirms his return as Oz Cobb in The Batman Part II, teasing a scarier story with bigger stakes as Gotham’s dark saga continues.

Colin Farrell is heading back to Gotham. The actor has officially confirmed that he will reprise his role as Oz Cobb, better known as the Penguin, in The Batman Part II, which is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.

Farrell’s performance as the crime boss became one of the standout highlights of 2024, with his gritty transformation in HBO’s The Penguin hailed as one of the best television performances of the year. The spin-off series, developed by Lauren LeFranc and part of Matt ReevesBatman Epic Crime Saga, captivated audiences with its mob movie–style storytelling and explosive finale. The show’s success also carried into awards season, with Cristin Milioti winning her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of Sofia Falcone, while The Penguin collected eight additional Creative Arts Emmys in technical and craft categories.

Now, attention turns back to Reeves’ big-screen saga. Following the critically acclaimed first installment of The Batman, which earned an 85% critics’ score and an 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, expectations are sky-high for the sequel. Farrell teased what fans can expect from the next chapter, calling it both “deeper” and “scarier.”

“I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m OK with that,” Farrell revealed. “I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it.”

While Farrell admits his role will be reduced this time around, HBO and Max content chairman Casey Bloys has already offered promising hints about a second season of The Penguin, which could give Oz Cobb plenty of space to continue his rise in Gotham’s underworld.

For now, fans eagerly await the October 2027 release of The Batman Part II, which promises another dark, thrilling, and high-stakes journey through Gotham City.
