Chris Evans Fuels Avengers Doomsday Speculation

Chris Evans’ jacked look at Toronto sparks Marvel fans to speculate about his Avengers: Doomsday return despite his character’s Endgame farewell.

Chris Evans has had a busy year, juggling roles in Celine Song’s romantic dramaMaterialists and Ethan Coen’s queer noirHoney Don’t, both of which debuted within months of each other. This momentum follows his 2024 appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine and the holiday action film Red One, and now he’s back in the spotlight with his latest project.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, Evans turned heads at the premiere of Romaine Gavras’ satirical thrillerSacrifice, where he stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. The film casts Evans as an arrogant celebrity whose glamorous night is disrupted when eco-terrorists seize the gala, claiming that famous figures must be sacrificed to a volcano to prevent a catastrophic eruption. Early responses to the film have been mixed, but Evans’ presence at TIFF sparked an entirely different conversation—his noticeably jacked physique.

A photo published by Variety showed Evans looking bulked up, resembling the physical shape he maintained during his run as Captain America. With Avengers: Doomsday currently in production, fans were quick to connect the dots, speculating whether Evans is secretly reprising his role as Steve Rogers.

Though Evans wasn’t part of Marvel’s massive Doomsday cast reveal livestream, hints from Marvel Studios’ social media suggest additional surprises could be in store. Outside of promoting Sacrifice, Evans’ upcoming slate looks clear, leaving fans wondering why he’d be training at Cap-level intensity without a Marvel reason.

Adding fuel to the fire, Evans himself previously told ScreenRant that he felt like he “wasn’t invited to the party” when asked about Doomsday. Still, his beefed-up look might be saying more than words ever could.

Steve Rogers’ story appeared to close in Avengers: Endgame, with Cap finally getting his long-awaited dance with Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell. But the MCU has shown it’s never shy about bending fate—especially now that Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Doctor Doom after Tony Stark’s farewell. If Iron Man can come back, fans argue, so can Cap.

Whether Evans’ transformation is just for fitness, another secret project, or indeed his Marvel comeback, fans will find out soon enough. For now, speculation continues to swirl around whether we’ll be saluting America’s ass once again when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
