Bradley Cooper Joins Margot Robbie In Ocean’s Prequel

Bradley Cooper to set to star alongside Margot Robbie in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel directed by Lee Isaac Chung, set in 1960s Europe before the 2001 hit film.

Bradley Cooper is preparing to dive into the world of high-stakes heists. The actor is set to star in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, joining Margot Robbie in the latest chapter of the long-running franchise.

The film is expected to take place before Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 hit Ocean’s Eleven, which starred George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts as con artists who orchestrated a daring Las Vegas casino robbery. That movie became both a critical and box office sensation, spawning sequels Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), as well as 2018’s female-led spinoff Ocean’s Eight with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna. Of course, the entire saga began with 1960’s Ocean’s 11, led by Frank Sinatra and members of the Rat Pack.

The prequel is expected to transport audiences to 1960s Europe, with filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung — best known for Twisters — stepping in to direct. Jay Roach was previously attached to the project before Chung took over. Carrie Solomon is penning the screenplay. While the official title has not yet been confirmed, fans can count out a few numbers: Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, and Ocean’s Eight are already taken. And with George Clooney hinting at plans for an Ocean’s Fourteen alongside Damon, Pitt, and Roberts, the mystery of what numeral will mark Robbie and Cooper’s heist remains unsolved.

The addition of Cooper brings even more star power to the project. Beyond his upcoming role in the prequel, he will next be seen in Is This Thing On?, a dramatic comedy premiering at the New York Film Festival. Inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, the film stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern and marks Cooper’s third directorial effort after A Star Is Born and Maestro. On screen, the Oscar-nominated actor has built an impressive resume with acclaimed roles in The Hangover, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and American Sniper.

With Margot Robbie already on board and Cooper now confirmed, the Ocean’s Eleven prequel is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated entries in the franchise yet.
