BoJack Creator’s New Animated Series Drops This August

BoJack Horseman creator is returning with Long Story Short, a decade-spanning animated family comedy arriving August 22 on Netflix.

Get ready for another deeply personal, wildly funny, and emotionally resonant ride through time—this time with an entire family in tow. Long Story Short, the highly anticipated new animated comedy from BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, is set to premiere August 22, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.

The 10-episode series follows the Schwooper siblings as they navigate the chaos of growing up, adulthood, and everything in between. Each 25-minute episode jumps across different points in their lives, weaving together moments of triumph, heartbreak, joy, and the messy compromises that come with family bonds. Through its unique storytelling structure, Long Story Short captures the humor and melancholy of what it really means to grow older together.

Bringing the Schwoopers to life is a standout voice cast, including Lisa Edelstein as Naomi Schwartz, Paul Reiser as Elliott Cooper, Ben Feldman as Avi Schwooper, Abbi Jacobson as Shira Schwooper, Max Greenfield as Yoshi Schwooper, Angelique Cabral as Jen, Nicole Byer as Kendra Hooper, Dave Franco as Danny Wegbreit, and Michaela Dietz as Hannah Schwooper.

Behind the scenes, the series brings together an impressive creative team. Bob-Waksberg serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. He’s joined by Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen for Tornante Television, with Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley of ShadowMachine onboard as co-executive producers. Longtime collaborator Lisa Hanawalt, who helped shape the look of BoJack Horseman, steps in as supervising producer. The animation is handled by ShadowMachine, the studio behind acclaimed adult animated hits.

With its pedigree of sharp wit, visual inventiveness, and emotional depth, Long Story Short promises to be a must-watch for fans of animated storytelling that doesn’t shy away from life’s most relatable moments.
