October is here and Halloween is just around the corner which means it’s time to start rewatching some of the best Halloween movies. Many Disney Halloween movies are classics for the season, so here are some of our favorites that you need to watch this month!

Hocus Pocus (1993)

A Halloween cult classic that is a must-watch, Hocus Pocus, takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, and follows Max a teenager who accidentally frees three evil witches who are on a quest to become immortal. Now Max, along with his sister Dani, love interest Allison, and Binx, a talking cat, set out to stop the evil witches’ plan before it’s too late. The legendary cast includes Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sister witches. Overall, it’s a great movie to watch with the entire family, especially, on Halloween night!

Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Another popular Disney movie that is perfect to watch this month is The Nightmare Before Christmas. The film follows Halloweentown’s Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington who has become bored of the same routine each year. However, all that is about to change when he stumbles across Christmastown. Jack is set on Halloweentown taking over Christmas this year, but things quickly go awry. The movie has a huge following unsurprisingly as it was created by the legendary filmmaker Tim Burton and is filled with unforgettable songs written by Danny Elfman.

Haunted Mansion Films (2003) & (2023)

The Haunted Mansion is a good movie to kick off the month of October. The original film, starring Eddie Murphy, was released in 2003 and it’s based on the popular ride of the same name. It follows a real estate agent who tries to reconnect with his children on a family trip, but on the way they have to make a quick business stop. They soon discover that the mansion that’s for sale is haunted by spirits who will need their help to break a curse.

Recently, Disney released a reboot adaptation of the film. It has an all-star cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto. The film follows a single mother and her son who recruit a team of supernatural experts to help rid their new home of ghosts. This movie has many references to the ride too which makes this extra enjoyable for fans.

Frankenweenie (2012)

If you’re a fan of Frankenstein this movie is for you! Frankenweenie is a parody of the classic film monster film and centers on a boy named Victor Frankenstein who resurrects his dog, Sparky, but things take a dark turn when his peers start resurrecting their pets too. This should definitely be at the top of your list as Tim Burton does it again with the use of stop-animation earning nominations for a Golden Globe and Academy Award. In addition, it’s a heartwarming and enjoyable film for anyone who is looking to get into the spirit of Halloween.

Werewolf By Night (2022)

Werewolf By Night is one of the newest Halloween specials that has received positive reviews. This film focuses on a group of monster hunters that come out of hiding following the death of their leader and must compete in a deadly competition for a powerful relic. This movie definitely is one to check out this spooky season because it’s one of Marvel’s deadliest projects so far! It’s creepy and bloody, there are tons of monsters, and contains a lot of creature carnage. The original film is in black and white but you can watch it in color on October 20, 2023!
