Ballard Starring Maggie Q Premieres July 9 On Prime Video

Prime Video announced that July 9 will be the premiere for Ballard as Maggie Q leads a new cold case unit in the gripping Bosch universe spinoff.

Prime Video has officially set the stage for its next major series in the Bosch universe. The streamer announced today that Ballard, starring Maggie Q as LAPD Detective Renée Ballard, will premiere on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. All 10 episodes of the series will debut globally on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories.

Based on the bestselling novels by Michael Connelly, Ballard introduces a new chapter in the Bosch saga. The series follows Renée Ballard, a driven and empathetic detective who takes charge of the LAPD’s newly formed—and woefully underfunded—cold case division. With a relentless dedication to justice, Ballard digs deep into decades-old crimes, including a series of murders tied to a serial killer and a mysterious John Doe. But the deeper she digs, the closer she gets to uncovering a dangerous conspiracy inside the LAPD itself.

Helping Ballard navigate the complex investigations is a team of volunteers and the return of a familiar face: retired detective Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver. Together, they confront chilling cases, institutional resistance, and personal trauma, all while trying to bring long-overdue closure to the victims’ families.

“I’m beyond excited about sharing this show,” said Michael Connelly, who also serves as executive producer. “I’ve seen it and know how good it is, and how Maggie Q absolutely captures the character of Renée Ballard. Great writing, acting, directing, and production, throw in a few surprise appearances, and I think this show is going to be a fan favorite.”

Joining Maggie Q in the cast are Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo.

Executive producers Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood are equally enthusiastic, describing Ballard as “gritty, emotional, and grounded, with that layered storytelling that makes Michael Connelly’s world so compelling.” They added, “Her journey is just getting started, and we can’t wait for everyone to meet her.”

The series is executive produced by Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, and Trish Hofmann, with Jasmine Russ serving as co-executive producer under Fabel Entertainment. Jamie Boscardin Martin, Trey Batchelor, and Theresa Snider also serve as co-executive producers.

With a gripping premise, powerhouse cast, and deep ties to the fan-favorite Bosch universe, Ballard is primed to become a new must-watch when it premieres July 9.
