Start your engines—Prime Video is gearing up for the premiere of American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans, a feature-length documentary spotlighting NASCAR’s bold leap onto the international racing stage at the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The film will debut exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide on June 12.
The newly released official trailer and key art offer a high-octane look into NASCAR’s 2023 Le Mans adventure, where a Chevrolet Camaro stock car competed against cutting-edge sports prototypes from racing powerhouses like Ferrari and Porsche. Formerly titled Garage 56, the film documents an unprecedented challenge that transformed an American stock car—built for short sprints on oval tracks—into a road-racing endurance machine.
This extraordinary feat was the brainchild of NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France, who had dreamed since childhood of seeing a NASCAR car compete at Le Mans. To make that vision a reality, France enlisted Hendrick Motorsports—the most successful team in NASCAR history. The team collaborated with racing legends Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Rockenfeller for an ambitious eighteen-month development project, culminating in their entry into the legendary French endurance race.
American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans is produced by NASCAR Studios and Griffin Van Malssen, and directed by Brad Lockhart. Executive producers include Jeff Gordon of Hendrick Motorsports, as well as Tim Clark, John Dahl, Amy Anderson, Tally Hair, and Matt Summers of NASCAR.
