HBO announces that And Just Like That… will officially end after season 3, with Sarah Jessica Parker and the cast bidding farewell.
It’s the end of an era — again. HBO has confirmed that And Just Like That…, the revival of Sex and the City, will officially come to a close after its third season. The unexpected announcement was made by showrunner Michael Patrick King on Instagram on August 1, alongside a joint post shared by the show’s and HBO Max’s official accounts.

In his statement, King explained that the decision to end the series became clear while he was writing the final episode of season 3. “It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” he wrote. The creative team—including Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey—agreed to conclude the series with a two-part finale and expanded the season’s episode count from 10 to 12.
King and Parker chose to hold off on revealing the news until now. “We didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season,” King noted.
The end of And Just Like That… comes amid widespread criticism of the current season and follows Parker’s return alongside original co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York, respectively. The show revisited the iconic New Yorkers’ lives as they navigated love, friendship, and aging in a modern Manhattan.
Kristin Davis, reacting to the announcement, shared the statement on her Instagram Stories with her own heartfelt message. “I am profoundly sad,” she wrote. “I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.” She also offered a special thank you to fans: “We love you forever and ever.”
Nixon also reposted the statement but did not add additional commentary.
The penultimate episode aired on July 31 and introduced a shocking twist involving Miranda’s son, Brady (played by Niall Cunningham), who revealed he is going to be a father with Mia, played by surprise guest star Ella Stiller. The drama escalated when Brady told his parents Mia didn’t want him involved in the baby’s life, prompting Miranda to confront her at the salon where she works.
Meanwhile, Carrie’s love life took another hit when her rekindled romance with Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett) came to an emotional end. Their relationship, which dates back to season 3 of Sex and the City, couldn’t withstand lingering trust issues stemming from Carrie’s past affair with Mr. Big. The two called it quits in episode 9 in a quiet but definitive breakup that showrunners confirmed was inevitable.
Despite initial doubts about ending the couple’s storyline, executive producer Julie Rottenberg admitted, “I got a little panicky. ‘Should we not be breaking them up?’” However, she and fellow producer Elisa Zuritsky ultimately agreed that the issues were too deeply rooted to overcome.
With just two episodes left, fans are bracing themselves to say goodbye once again to the beloved trio of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. The series finale of And Just Like That… is set to premiere August 14 on HBO Max.
