7 ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Quotes To Lift Your Spirits

Bad things happen in life, but there are a thousand ways to overcome those moments and turn them around. The cast of How I Met Your Mother does a great job showing us the good things in life; here are 7 pieces of advice to help you through!

There are so many things that happen in life that can get you down. Whether it’s a breakup, a loved one passing, friends drifting apart, getting denied a job, or even as simple as the grocery store not having your favorite ice cream (I mean, really, how cruel is that!?), we’re just stuck wondering why all of this is happening.

In the wise words of Barney Stinson, “Whenever I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead,” what a phrase to live by! But that’s only one of the many amazing life quotes this show gave us. I would be ready to put some (if not all, because they’re legen-wait for it- dary) on your bathroom mirror to look at before the day begins!

“If you’re not scared, then you’re not taking a chance. And if you’re not taking a chance, then what the hell are you doing anyway?” – Ted Mosby

But seriously!!! Although Ted was a bit dramatic, he at least was brave! Who else would show up to the love of their life’s door with a blue french horn you STOLE from a restaurant?

“That’s life, you know, we never end up where you thought you wanted to be.” – Marshall Erikson

This is such a hard thing to take in, but it’s so true! We dreamed of so many things when we were younger, whether it was to be an astronaut or a chef, but now look where you are! Maybe those things happened, but life changes, and it gives you so many opportunities to find an endless amount of passions, and there’s nothing wrong with going off course and creating a new life you never dreamt of before!

“You can’t cling to the past, because no matter how tightly you hold on, it’s already gone.” – Ted Mosby

Ugh, this one definitely stings a little (maybe a lot). Although the past is comfortable, it can’t be your future. We can look at the past and be sad with how things turned out or wish things turned out different, but it’s the past for a reason – it can’t change or be fixed. What can be changed is your future and what you will do to make it the happiest part of your life.

“Shouldn’t we hold out for the person who doesn’t just tolerate our little quirks, but actually kind of likes them?” – Ted Mosby

No one should ever put you down for something that you do! You should hold out and wait for the person that loves everything about you, good and bad.

“The good things will always be here waiting for you” – Lily Aldrin

So many bad things happen in life, sometimes it’s hard to remember there are good things out there for us. So whenever there seems to be a dark cloud above you, remember there will be a rainbow someday, and when that rainbow shows up, it will be the best feeling in the world. So don’t let the bad things in life make you forget all the good things that are waiting for you!”

“Sometimes things have to fall apart to make way for better things.” – Ted Mosby

It’s the worst feeling when something so good in life comes crashing down right in front of you. But, there is always a way to rebuild from that crash and let new opportunities come to you. The initial crash is loud and disruptive, and the rebuilding might take longer than anticipated, but it’ll definitely teach you a thing or two along the way.

“Whatever you do in this life, it is not legendary unless your friends are there to see it.” – Barney Stinson

There’s nothing better in life than being surrounded by amazing people that love and support you unconditionally. Friends choose to stay in your life because they love you and enjoy spending time with you, so never take that for granted. Having friends there for you and being there for your friends is the best feeling in the world.
