5 Stars Who Got Their Start On American Idol

With the new season of ‘American Idol’ here we’re taking a look back at some of the amazing stars the show has produced so far. With so much talent, it is incredible that they all came from the same show!

Phillip Phillips

Best known for his song “Gone, Gone, Gone”, this season eleven winner took over America’s hearts the minute he stepped on stage. Beating out his opponent Jessica Sanchez, Phillip released his first studio album The World From the Side of the Moon on November 19th, 2012 just six months after his big win. This album included hits such as “Home”, “Gone, Gone, Gone,” and “Man on the Moon”. He has released three albums since his debut; one just as recently as last year entitled Drift Back!

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has been a star since she auditioned with the iconic Bonnie Raitt song, “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Since winning season four of American Idol in 2005, Underwood has taken the world by storm releasing classic songs such as “Before He Cheats” and “Blown Away”. Having maintained over ten million Spotify listeners, her latest album Denim & Rhinestones has gained over five million streams in a little under two years!

Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks won American Idol in 2007, becoming the youngest contestant to win the show at just seventeen years old. Since then, she has become a multifaceted threat with both a prominent singing and acting career. She has hit songs such as “No Air” and “Battlefield”, Jordin is still releasing music today with her latest album entitled Cider and Hennesy being released in 2020. For her acting career, Sparks has started in multiple hit films such as Sparkle, Ride Along 2, and Left Behind. Her latest acting endeavor had audiences watching her in Rugrats as a special guest!

Jennifer Hudson

Hudson blew the judges away with her rendition of “Share Your Love With Me” by Aretha Franklin as her audition song. Even though she did not win season 3 of American Idol, she is still one of the biggest stars that the show has ever produced. With a prolific career in both singing and acting, audiences have not been able to get enough of Hudson since 2003. Being most known for her acting career nowadays, audiences loved her performance in projects such as Sex and the City, The Color Purple, and Dreamgirls. With her portraying Aretha Franklin in the 2021 biopic, Respect, it seems the singer has come full circle since her American Idol days.

Kelly Clarkson

Besides Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson is the biggest star the show has ever produced, being the first ever winner of American Idol back in 2002, Clarkson paved the way for stardom for so many artists. With songs such as “Since U Been Gone”, “Piece by Piece”, and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”, Clarkson dominates the music scene with her powerful and dynamic vocals. Maintaining over twenty million monthly listeners and over 2 million streams on her latest album Chemistry, it is clear that Kelly Clarkson still has audiences captivated. Her talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show has captivated American audiences with over 1.5 million viewers on the fifth season of the show. Clarkson has had an incredible rise to stardom all because of American Idol.
