She is a singer-songwriter

Rebecca has continued to work on her music even after her YouTube hit. Besides the “Friday” remix, she has also released songs such as “Girlfriend,” “Self Sabotage,” and “Sweetheart.” In 2017, she even put out her debut EP titled “RE/BL” which featured 6 songs. You can check out her music on all streaming platforms!

She is a YouTube Star

With almost 1.5 million subscribers, Rebecca has rightfully secured her place in the YouTube community. Not only does she frequently share her music, but also uploads lifestyle videos that give fans an insight into her day-to-day. Most recently, she has been hosting a talk-show-like series on her channel called “Black Out with Rebecca Black” where she chats with friends and fellow creators.

She is a hit on TikTok

Not only is Rebecca killing it on YouTube, but she also has a strong footing in the TikTok world with over 700,000 followers. She posts everything from her OOTD to dance videos, and even pokes fun at herself and her viral hit from time to time!

She has been open about her sexuality

In April 2020, Rebecca revealed on the Dating Straight podcast that she identifies as queer. She stated, “To me, the word ‘queer’ feels really nice. I’ve dated a lot of different types of people and I just don’t really know what the future holds. Some days I feel a little more on the gay side than others.”

She is overcoming the hate

Rebecca revealed she suffered so much bullying after the release of “Friday” that she had to drop out of school. In 2011, the singer told ABC News’ Nightline, “When I walk by they’ll [her classmates] start singing ‘Friday’ in a really nasally voice. Or, you know, they’ll be like, ‘Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?’” On top of that, the singer received an overwhelming amount of online hate, with some going as far as sending death threats.

However, last year the 22-year-old tweeted advice that wishes she could’ve shared with her younger self. Rebecca stated, “Above all things, I just wish I could go back and talk to my 13-year-old self who was terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world. To my 15-year-old self who felt like she had nobody to talk to about the depression she faced.” She continued, “You are not defined by any one choice or thing. Time heals, and nothing is finite. It’s a process that’s never too late to begin.”

We are so glad to hear that Rebecca is doing better and embracing her amazing self!

Congratulations, Rebecca on all of your amazing achievements – we cannot wait to see what you do next. If you haven’t yet, stream “Friday” the remix!
